Hello, If you live in Lake Telemark please attend a meeting on December 8, 2006 at 7pm at the Club House. As we all know the lake is in need of significant attention and it is time to get the entire neighborhood involved. For the past 20+ years a core group of volunteers have dedicated time, energy and effort to the upkeep of the lake and TLCC, but times are changing and so are the problems facing the lake. If we want to save the lake and all that a small lake community is we all need to attend this important meeting. We also need some new faces and voices to get involved.
The lake has hired an attorney to help look at ways to help save the lake and she will be at the meeting to explain what some options are. I attended a meeting last night at the club house and had the chance to meet her, she has some great ideas and proven methods that have worked in other communities. PLEASE come out to the meeting and hear about what is going on.

Just curious. Is pollution from aging septic systems one of the problems and is the extension of sewer lines to the lake community one of the solutions that's being considered?
I'm not sure this is the case but if the water quality of Lake Telemark was threatened by septic systems and if the only practical way of dealing with the problem was by hooking them up to sewers and if CC was preventing that from happening by absorbing the available sewerage capacity would that not be one reason to considering an ED action in order to facilitate a lower impact use at 140 GPR? A lot of ifs. Does anyone have any answers?
There is no plan to bring sewers up to Telemark which is a shame as it would help out a great deal. There are many issues that the lake has to deal with one of which is contamination of the water from septic systems. One other issues that is a very serious concern is the fact that the lake is the source of water in the event of a fire in the community - however the lake is so mucked up that the hoses will clog if too much water is drawn. There are efforts underway to secure funding to dredge the lake, however this is going to take time to do. Those of us in the northern end of town pay similar taxes as our neighbors in other sections of town yet we do not have town sewers nor town water. We have to figure out ways to improve our community that are innovative and make good long term sense.

Thanks for the extremely prompt response to my posting. I suspected that the lack of sewers in Lake Telemark might be causing problems for the lake but wasn't certain of that. I also didn't realize that the lake was the source of water for fire fighters and that this source was in jeopardy due to the weed infestation resulting from septic systems. Do you know if the lack of water for fire fighting would also pose a danger to those outside the lake such as the Marcella and Hibernia communities? I would hate to think that the safety of residents is in jeopardy due to the lack of sewerage capacity allocated to the redevelopment of 140 GPR. Wouldn't it make sense to acquire 140 GPR by ED, sell it to a tax-paying entity that would not require as much sewerage capacity, and use the taxes collected from that entity to subsidize the cost of extending the sewer lines to Lake Telemark? Has something like that ever been considered?

There is a plan underway to dredge the lake and the fire dept is involved with it, hopefully it will work out. As for other water sources for fighting fires in the area, yes there are some but this is the best option for the Telemark area. As for sewers for 30 years there have been attempts to get them up here and I am aware of nothing viable in the future for this to happen.
By the way did you all read the neighbor news today? It appears David is really mad now...I think the total impact of the conditions just sunk in. The little happy dance the CC crowd did after the planning board meeting now seems a little more comical then it even looked that night.
