"I pray for our mayor and other leaders … that they may be able to put the whole Christ Church issue in its true light and that they will not be influenced by Your enemies." --- R. Jones
Neighbor News 12/29/04 Cindy Forrest Russell Jones a spokesman for Residents for Truth in Rockaway, a pro-church group, had this to say about the proceedings, “Mr. Dimin was his mean old self but why didn’t they mention the angry, cantankerous, puffed-up RT fireman guy… and how the mayor played to his VoRT constituency with questions that rivaled those of Inspector stall, stall, stall Closeau who re-emerged as his old self in these proceedings duly representing the aforementioned VoRTies by asking a litany of fumbling, bumbling questions that went no where but wasted more time which is part of his job description – it’s a good thing he can get paid for work like this because when a judge gets to hear his drivel, the gavel will come down and this guy will be in the restroom on his cell phone trying to find another easy planning board gig.”

"I pray for our mayor and our other leaders that they will be able to put the whole christ church issue in its true light and that they will not be deceived by its PR machine which is part of the immoral engine of this monsterous business venture." --- Rational
This moral compass thing still has me scratching and shaking my head. For Mr. Jones to suggest the Rockaway Township residents would need a "moral compass" based on his own particular brand of dogma is insulting, Un-American and shows that in his own narrow view of things he supports the church for what it is, and not if it will fit the site correctly. But of course that's no surprise. As I've stated before those that support the church just because it's a church and those that oppose the church just because it's the type of church it is, in my eyes, fall into the same category of the lunatic fringe and their arguements and opinions should be dismissed for what they are.........nonsense.
The type of church that it is - - - is not a church but a business. Thus the type of church that it is has a lot to do with it. CC is about as spiritual and moral as our Software company is! And our "for profit" company does not enjoy tax exempt status nor township infrastructure support.
Wake up, my friend.
ps - maybe we need to re-incorporate our company as a 501(c)3. We can claim that we worship the mathematical wonders of 1's and 0's! Nah, we are more ethical than that.
Oh, I'm wide awake, and living in the real world and not a dream world. How we may view the church as a religious or moral institution as opposed to a business institution unfortunaly is not relevent in the eyes of the law or to the debate over the use of the site. In order for it to be relevent, existing laws need to be changed, and I think that should be looked into. Religious institutions do enjoy special status in the eyes of the law that they perhaps should not have. The realistic and pragmatic approach to approve or deny CC full use of the site must be decided by using existing laws and codes. I too oppose the application , but for practical reasons and not for personal prejudgements. I respect thier right to persue the matter even in light of my own opposition. My view on their identity being as a business as much or more than they are a church is not too far from your own. In general, major organized religion to me looks more and more like the cause of alot of the worlds problems than it looks like a cure for them. I do have a lot of trust in God, I just don't have a lot of trust in many people who say they work for him, or even speak for him.(e.g. Pat Robertson)
One of these days we can actually meet face to face and have that beer. Than I can pick your brain on sound stuff. ( I run a soundboard for a coffeehouse on a somewhat regular basis)
Come on over, anytime. You know our addy. I think that you would love to see our soundlab. It is pretty much second to none but for, perhaps, the ones run by the Federal Government. And as for the beer, we always keep well stocked! It's one of those necessities of life.
