However, the most important thing is that the Roman Catholic Church specifically disavows what had been referred to as "Replacement Supercessionist Philosophy." That concept held that once Christianity was established, Judaism and its spiritual beliefs were thereafter null and void. It meant that the only way to engage in a relationship with G-d was via a belief in Jesus as the Son of G-d. This change in philosophy was accomplished via a papal encyclical in the early 1960's...Maria, I believe that the priest that you chatted with may need to do a little more research about the Catholic Churches position on this issue. It really is very clear. Craig
"The Bible is the inspired word of God. And most especially the words of Jesus must be taken as they are written. At the same time, you must know the context in which they were spoken, the historical setting, etc. In this passage, Jesus is explaining that He is God and He has been sent to save the world. He is not cutting out the Jews and others. He is speaking to the Jews in this context. He is the promised Messiah and He is telling them in Him they will be saved. All people may be saved, even those who do not know Jesus' name, even those who do not believe in God. Let us leave salvation in the hands of the Savior. Father Tim Farrell
Craig...did i misunderstand what you were saying??? am i missing something...he's not saying other religions are null and void...he's saying that ALL will be "saved"...even those who don't know jesus or believe in g-d...
I think that the quote is interestingly vague. I also would not put too much emphasis on literal interpretations of the New Testament based on its Geneology. The four priests that I spoke with made that point very clear to me - - - the document is not to be taken literally. That is a basic Roman Catholic position on the bible.
I believe that the Roman Catholic church has it right and in the proper perspective. So do the Lutherans, Methodists, Episcopaleans, and Presbyterians. They followed the lead of the Catholic Church on the matter at hand.

Dear Friend, The Bible is the inspired word of God. And most especially the words of Jesus must be taken as they are written. Father Tim Farrell
Craig,
Father Farrell isn't being vague at all in the two bolded statements above. He is saying that the Catholic Church's position is: Jesus' words are correctly recorded in the NT. Jesus is God.
Oh, and Craig, I suppose PBS could be getting its numbers wrong, but I doubt it:
How George W. Bush became a born-again Christian -- and the impact that decision has had on his political career -- is the focus of FRONTLINE's report, "The Jesus Factor." Through interviews with Bush family friends, advisers, political analysts, and observers -- as well as excerpts from the president's speeches, interviews, and debates -- this one-hour documentary chronicles George W. Bush's personal religious journey while also examining the growing political influence of the nation's more than 70 millionevangelical Christians.
sounds like the Catholic church is coming in a strong #2.

the holy trinity is a catholic belief...so craig has no reason to believe in it...and most importantly he (nor anyone else) needs to to get into heaven...no one is cut off from g-d!!!
don't forget what else fr. farrell says...it is the INSPIRED word of g-d and CONTEXT is very important...don't try judge what fr. farrell is saying by single sentences...you need the complete picture to understand...same all the way around...whether it's jesus' words, fr. farrell's words...or any other person's words...
matthew...what the heck was that all about??? you ok, man???

According to Craig I have been way off the deep end for quite some time. I guess that's why he's afraid to converse with me.
In any case, I did write the "Vague?" posting and in my haste forgot to sign my name. Really.

Not Jenkins. Doh! I guess it's Jennings. It's so hard for one person to keep all these names and personalities straight!
(( It's all a scam ... so far, it's worked pretty well... ))
Hahahahah .... hook, line and sinker -- kudos to you!
I have to admit to being curious as to what your modus operandi really is ultimately all about... Conspiracy theorist that I am, if nothing else, I've learned from online life that absolutely anything's possible out there in the anonymous world of bbs and message boards.

Hahahaha... Hmmm .. this sounds like a great concept for a made-for-TV movie or TV series!

Psssst, Bystander, it's just you and me (and me and me) here.
LOL ... ah, yes, ok, of course ... can't be just one person here since *I* didn't think I have/had any split/multiple personalities ...
Or.. er.. hmmm.. uhm.. Yikes!!.. maybe both of us are inflicted with each our own set of multiple personalities ... that would explain MY aching fingers and headaches??
Let's divide the screen names now, okay?! .. I'm all the ones you didn't already mention!!
