Suggestion: Sharing Resources

To: Everyone,

Rather than bicker back and forth on what [to me] is clearly an 'agree-to-disagree' impasse re: religious doctrine and belief ... I suggest perusing the internet for its wealth and abundance of interesting and healthy reading material. This is a small selection of websites that I've recently found in my research and online travels to inform myself further on some of the topics that are being/have been discussed on this message board.

If anyone else has any interesting websites to share, please list them here. I'm interested in learning more of the diversity of the culture and people that live in my neighbourhood and community.

...

It's clear to me that there really is no 'right' nor 'wrong' when it comes to personal belief and faith.

...
...

Also, this week's PBS Frontline looks like it will be an interesting show to view -- it's a rebroadcast so some might have already seen it.

(from www.pbs.org)
The Jesus Factor
May 20

As an evangelical Christian, President Bush has something in common with the 46 percent of Americans who describe themselves as being "born again" or having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Often has the president recounted praying about major decisions facing the nation ‹ but what do we actually know about the rudiments of George Bush's faith? To what extent do the president's spiritual beliefs impact or influence his political decision-making? And how closely do Bush's religious views mirror those of the country's burgeoning - and politically influential - evangelical movement?

Thanks and take care,

-B.

RE: Suggestion: Sharing Resources

Wow! Bystander, This one is my favorite, http://www.sullivan-county.com/nf0/y2k/tax_churches.htm  thank you very much.  I believe in God, just not in religion. I suggest some of the more avid posters should look at this one too. Again. Thank you.

Certainly, some of you have seen my "diatribe" on this issue.  Despite the fact that I belong to a HOW, I do not believe that any religious institution should be tax exempt.  See past posts by myself on this topic.  It is tantamount to State Sponsered Religion.  Also, it is not fair and equitabally distributed to all taxpayers.  Many people are not affiliated with a church, yet are quite spiritual.  My own ma is an example.  Some are Aethists which is just fine, but why should they be forced to pay for my Shul or your Church.

Ultimately, this issue will be brought to the correct forum and be explored legally especially because of the abuses which we are all aware of which are becomming ubiquitious ala businesses pretending to be churches.

Tax exempt status for HOW's will change; just give it time.

Today's Submissions ..

Today's submissions are eclectic and, again, culled from that which I've seen being discussed on the messageboard recently.

Enjoy the pickins'...
