What can I say. I guess that you are just more in touch with God than my Pope. I may not know a lot about my religion, but I do have my very heartfelt faith and do not believe that I need to defend it. It touches me deeply and inspires me in my life with what little I know. So, judge me not, lest ye be judged, Matthew. That much I do know. I will not respond to you ever again. If you care about my beliefs, you will respect them. If you want to challenge them, take it up with the Roman Catholic Church and their theoloegins.
it would seem to me that tolerant open intelligent minds may wish to explain their beliefs, whereas closed intolerant less intelligent minds would find the need to "defend" them.

It would seem that RT Woman can't "explain" them either.
As is the case with most here who have attacked my statements.

Matthew,
Since you enjoy religious discussions, maybe you can help out thinker over at the Rockaway Truth website. He's left a question from Deuteronomy unanswered at http://rockawaytruth.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=12
Maybe you can answer for him. Please answer on the Truth website. I don't check this one often and find the board hard to get around when there are a large number of new posts.
What is your opinion on interpreting and acting upon this scripture literally? Should you completely destroy a town that houses "enemies of God"? What if this wasn't translated properly, or the translator was in a bad mood that day?
Deuteronomy 13
13 that wicked men have arisen among you and have led the people of their town astray, saying, "Let us go and worship other gods" (gods you have not known),
14 then you must inquire, probe and investigate it thoroughly. And if it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done among you,
15 you must certainly put to the sword all who live in that town. Destroy it completely, both its people and its livestock.
16 Gather all the plunder of the town into the middle of the public square and completely burn the town and all its plunder as a whole burnt offering to the LORD your God. It is to remain a ruin forever, never to be rebuilt.
17 None of those condemned things shall be found in your hands, so that the LORD will turn from his fierce anger; he will show you mercy, have compassion on you, and increase your numbers, as he promised on oath to your forefathers,
18 because you obey the LORD your God, keeping all his commands that I am giving you today and doing what is right in his eyes.
That is why Fundmentalists (those who take these things literally) scare the s-h-i-t out of me. Our house is on the same block that these guys wanna build their club. That would not scare you? You have all seen their shills holier than thou attitude expressed here by the likes of Matthew. His views are typical of that mindset. Just imaine 25,000 of 'em (what is now defined as a Gigachurch!)

Isn't that verse from the OT? Didn't God tell Jews to kill unbelievers in that verse? What's up with that?? Do Jews take that verse literally? What does it mean?
