why do some of u have a hard time understanding why someone like maier might have a problem with those ideas that matthew espoused? i think that if i was jewish, i would find them quite offensive myself. i am a member of a local presbyterian church and we do not believe in those radical teachings about our jewish brethern. i find the notion quite unacceptable myself. do any of you or am i a longer on this?
I think it's insane to debate on beliefs; especially when the debaters have such differing beliefs.
To say "I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord..." and so on, is fine.
To say "I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord...and everyone who doesn't believe the same as me is not getting into heaven as far as I can tell"
...is insulting the other person's beliefs.
At their most basic, beliefs are things we BELIEVE.
Someone who tells us that our beliefs are not only irrelevant, but will ultimately send us to Hell...well, we don't BELIEVE them.
It's pretty open and shut.
"I'm right and you're wrong" (read "I believe I'm right and you're wrong") and variations thereof are all that can be discussed.
Louder and louder.
Me, I BELIEVE this conversation is only started by a person who ultimately wants a fight.
I am glad to hear that at least one person in town understands my sensitivity pertaining to this matter. It is especially gratifying that you are a Christian. Thanks! I wish that my response to the editorial comments in the DR would get printed. (but I guess not really)
This sums it up pretty well. It is taken from a column by Abbott Koloff -
Maier wrote a clarification on Thursday, posted on the Internet, and quickly got a response from the anonymous Matthew -- who may or may not be a Christ Church supporter. The person calling himself Matthew wrote that Maier misquoted him when he said he had written that Jews "weren't getting into heaven as far as I can see." He (or she) said he actually wrote that Jews AREN'T getting into heaven. He wrote that he believes Jews who lived before the time of Jesus Christ could get into heaven.
That should tell you something about the level of this debate.

The 'they' he was talking about was ALL people who have not accepted Jesus - Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and others.
Do not always believe what you read in the paper. As you can see if you click on the link above and look at the ORIGINAL quote, you will see that Mr. Koloff did not do his 'due diligence' in researching the 'true' statement of Matthew, and Matthew simply lied.
Matthew - I guess lying is OK for you - because you can all just wish it away with your belief, correct?
You are correct. My original post was exactly as you stated. I was wrong when I re-quoted myself.
For the record, I will expand on exactly what I meant.
My comment, even though it was in the past tense, was referring to current times. I did not mean to imply that Judaism was not the path to Heaven BEFORE Jesus was born. Because, I believe that Judaism was, indirectly the path to Heaven, in that it was leading it's people to the Messiah. I believe that Jesus is the Messiah. If Judaism is now leading it's followers to Messiah (Jesus), then it is "getting" people into Heaven as far as I can see.
My belief is still quite simple. Accept Jesus as your Messiah (Savior) and you will be with Him in Heaven after you die. I NEVER said if you are a Jew, you will go to Hell. Any suggestion along these lines is ludicrous. I personally know several Jews who accept Jesus as their Messiah.
I would refer any here to read the 5/8 Daily Record Letter To The Editor written by Pastor Lloyd Pulley. I have no connection to Pastor Pulley, but I completely agree with his letter.
I have previously stated my position of support/non-support of CC and will be glad to restate this later as time allows.

Matthew,
I'll repeat my previous post to you. I believe with the recent articles that were written, you owe it to your community to 'come out' and speak with the reporters from the Daily Record....
Mr. Koloff states that Matthew "could be someone who opposes the church and wants to give it a bad name." He also states that "no one knows his [your] motivations".
Matthew - please tell us - do you support or oppose Christ Church?
What are your motivations?
I believe it is time you signed your FULL names to your post, since you've become a 'celebrity' of sorts and since your quotes are directly at the heart of the matter at hand?
Ask yourself Matthew, WWJD? Would he come forward to explain his purpose, or would he remain anonymous so people such as Mr. Koloff (and his thousands of readers) will view you as 'just another Church hater' posting anonymously to make the church look bad. If you do NOT come forward with your true identity, your original statement, "Never said they didn't do ANY good. I simply said they weren't getting people into heaven as far as I could see. You're free to provide evidence to the contrary." will be viewed as being posted by someone who is against Christ Church and wants to make them look bad.
I submit to you Matthew, that Jesus would say it is time for you to come forward, state WHO you are and to own up to and defend your statement.

I do not oppose Christ Church. I do not support Christ Church.
I have not been convinced by any of the facts presented so far that they can be legally be denied. My view on this could change based on additional facts or a greater understanding of the law on my part. For example, if it was brought to light that their plan is in clear violation of the new environmental laws, then I would feel that they could be legally denied.
[A warning for you Jay: Don't bother saying "No one can be neutral about this" It won't get you anywhere.]
What are your motivations?
This is a vague question Jay. Do you mean to ask what I will gain or lose if CC comes to Rockaway Township?
I believe it is time you signed your FULL names to your post, since you've become a 'celebrity' of sorts and since your quotes are directly at the heart of the matter at hand? Ask yourself Matthew, WWJD?
Jesus let the world know who He was because He is the Messiah. It is important for people to know who Jesus is so they can get to Heaven. Knowing my name will not get anyone into Heaven.

I have seen no posts from CC "supporters" that suggest that I am making CC look bad. I have never claimed to be speaking for CC.
I submit to you Matthew, that Jesus would say it is time for you to come forward, state WHO you are and to own up to and defend your statement.
Jay, I have referenced the words of Jesus on several occasions, and I always provide a scriptural reference when I do. Now that you are not merely referencing Jesus, but speaking for Him, please provide me with the chapter and verse that support the claims you are making. I look forward to our continued discussion on the words of Messiah.
Jesus let the world know who He was because He is the Messiah. It is important for people to know who Jesus is so they can get to Heaven. Knowing my name will not get anyone into Heaven.
Matthew,
You've been misquoted in the newspaper. Will you allow the lies to stand?
Mr. Koloff suggested that you might be anti-Christ Church and your posts were made to look the church bad (not my words - Mr. Koloff wrote them). If this is not true, you must come forward and speak (or email) to Mr. Koloff.
The truth will set you free. You owe it to BOTH sides to talk to the Daily Record (Mr. Koloff and / or Mr. Jennings) and verify who you are and what you said.
If you do not, your statements will continue to be viewed by the newspaper as a lie by an anonymous VORT supporter attempting to make Christ Church look bad.
Matthew - will you let the "LIES" stand, or will you be a man, stand up for your principal and step forward. If you do not step forward and own your statements, you will be viewed by VORT supporters as a shill - attempting to bait someone into making a statement (which you did) and by the press as an anonymous VORT supporter, attempting to attack Christ Church's tolerance of others.
Which will it be Matthew - Allow the lies to stand, or stand up to your facts?
Haven't many here repeatedly accused the press of misstating facts and slanting their stories? If I were to attempt to clear up anything with Mr. Koloff, he could selectively quote or slant the story any way he wished.
I have no need to contact Mr. Koloff. By referring to this forum, Mr. Koloff himself has allowed all possible misquotes to be cleared up. Anybody who has read his article and is interested in the truth about what has been said can simply come to this forum and read it for themselves.
And Jay, I'm still waiting for your scripture references that I asked for last time.
"Jay, Haven't many here repeatedly accused the press of misstating facts and slanting their stories? If I were to attempt to clear up anything with Mr. Koloff, he could selectively quote or slant the story any way he wished." I have no need to contact Mr. Koloff.
Then you will allow LIES to stand. You are a shallow individual. Again, WWJD? Would he allow lies to stand? Matthew - you have no balls. You care only for your cause, and not for the Truth. If you want ANY respect, stand up for the Truth. If you do not stand up for the Truth, you allow lies to stand. Are you afraid that Mr. Koloff might agree that you are a small-minded bigot? Sadly, if you do not come forward, all will know you as either a small-minded bigot, or as a shill. There is no other choice but the Truth.
By referring to this forum, Mr. Koloff himself has allowed all possible misquotes to be cleared up.
Not true Matthew. As he stated, since you are anonmyous, your quotes can be coming from some anti-CC person who wants to paint CC in a bad light. Obviously, he must AGREE that your views are bigoted and small-minded. Stand up to the Truth or allow lies to stand. It's very simple. You lose total respect if you do not own your statements.
Anybody who has read his article and is interested in the truth about what has been said can simply come to this forum and read it for themselves. And Jay, I'm still waiting for your scripture references that I asked for last time. Matthew"
Not so easy - they'd have to find the exact thread with the statements - and there are many. This forum is difficult to trace history in. Besides, it does NOT answer his basic statement that you are against CC and posted your message anonymously to make the church bad.
Matthew - do not come forward and you allow lies to stand. Is this what your religion teaches? If so, I am glad I am not part of it.
End of discussion. I will no longer answer any of your posts until I find out that you have stepped forward. If you don't step forward, there is no need to answre you since you allow lies to stand as Truth.

Hey...Mathew....since you are if you are so scripture concious, and caught up in what the bible says I want to give you something to chew on. And, well, to go tit for tat: Just remember who G-d gave the Ten Commandments to, and who he calls the "chosen people".
Now...Do you really beleive he won't let them into heaven after that???
I will ignore any post you have in regard to this, because anything you say is rifled with self rightous, religious bigotry, aimed at dividing our town.

I fully believe that the Jews are God's chosen people.

What does His word say regarding this? Has He guaranteed them entry into Heaven? Please direct me to the place in the OT where it says that.

You may have to ignore the questions I have asked since you may not know the answers. I suggest that before you make statements about Judaism, make sure you understand what you're saying well enough to defend it.
I have something that I want the Press to print that we have to say about you and your f-u--c-k - - ing- - make believe church:
Eat s--hi--t & drop dead you j-e-r-k off & the rest of you that think similarly. You are just a bunch of f-u-c-king religous bigots as others have stated before this posting. God forbid that the lot of you end up in this town. Total destruction. Take your business elsewhere.

RT Woman,
You've appealed to God in your post.
Do you really think that God approves of your choice of words?
I can not speak for God, but I suspect that he probably feels better about my written references then he does about you and your church. If he was here, he would probably knock the entire business being run in Montclair down with a bulldozer because of what Ireland is really doing - - - selling God as HIS profitable product.

RT Woman,
As you're apparently a RT resident, I think the DR would be very interested in hearing from you. Why don't write a letter to the editor making this point.
