I think it's insane to debate on beliefs; especially when the debaters have such differing beliefs.

To say "I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord..." and so on, is fine.

To say "I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord...and everyone who doesn't believe the same as me is not getting into heaven as far as I can tell"

...is insulting the other person's beliefs.

At their most basic, beliefs are things we BELIEVE.

Someone who tells us that our beliefs are not only irrelevant, but will ultimately send us to Hell...well, we don't BELIEVE them.

It's pretty open and shut.

"I'm right and you're wrong" (read "I believe I'm right and you're wrong") and variations thereof are all that can be discussed.

Louder and louder.

Me, I BELIEVE this conversation is only started by a person who ultimately wants a fight.

This sums it up pretty well. It is taken from a column by Abbott Koloff -

Maier wrote a clarification on Thursday, posted on the Internet, and quickly got a response from the anonymous Matthew -- who may or may not be a Christ Church supporter. The person calling himself Matthew wrote that Maier misquoted him when he said he had written that Jews "weren't getting into heaven as far as I can see." He (or she) said he actually wrote that Jews AREN'T getting into heaven. He wrote that he believes Jews who lived before the time of Jesus Christ could get into heaven.

That should tell you something about the level of this debate.

Thank you for your comments 'journalist'. I believe that Matthew and Mr. Koloff are mistaken (which is another word for lying). If you look at Matthew's post at http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=17042&subForumID=17134&action=viewSubForum&page=1&commentID=450168&action=viewTopic&sparkKey=fca30fedad4e35cb038653d40fb3e53cb0 you will see that he CLEARLY stated "Never said they didn't do ANY good. I simply said they weren't getting people into heaven as far as I could see. You're free to provide evidence to the contrary."

The 'they' he was talking about was ALL people who have not accepted Jesus - Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and others.

Do not always believe what you read in the paper. As you can see if you click on the link above and look at the ORIGINAL quote, you will see that Mr. Koloff did not do his 'due diligence' in researching the 'true' statement of Matthew, and Matthew simply lied.

Matthew - I guess lying is OK for you - because you can all just wish it away with your belief, correct?

You are correct. My original post was exactly as you stated. I was wrong when I re-quoted myself.

For the record, I will expand on exactly what I meant.

My comment, even though it was in the past tense, was referring to current times. I did not mean to imply that Judaism was not the path to Heaven BEFORE Jesus was born. Because, I believe that Judaism was, indirectly the path to Heaven, in that it was leading it's people to the Messiah. I believe that Jesus is the Messiah. If Judaism is now leading it's followers to Messiah (Jesus), then it is "getting" people into Heaven as far as I can see.

My belief is still quite simple. Accept Jesus as your Messiah (Savior) and you will be with Him in Heaven after you die. I NEVER said if you are a Jew, you will go to Hell. Any suggestion along these lines is ludicrous. I personally know several Jews who accept Jesus as their Messiah.

I would refer any here to read the 5/8 Daily Record Letter To The Editor written by Pastor Lloyd Pulley. I have no connection to Pastor Pulley, but I completely agree with his letter.

I have previously stated my position of support/non-support of CC and will be glad to restate this later as time allows.

I do not oppose Christ Church. I do not support Christ Church.

I have not been convinced by any of the facts presented so far that they can be legally be denied. My view on this could change based on additional facts or a greater understanding of the law on my part. For example, if it was brought to light that their plan is in clear violation of the new environmental laws, then I would feel that they could be legally denied.

Not so easy - they'd have to find the exact thread with the statements - and there are many. This forum is difficult to trace history in. Besides, it does NOT answer his basic statement that you are against CC and posted your message anonymously to make the church bad.
