Imagine that Green Pond Bible Chapel (located almost at the top of the mountain on Green Pond Rd.) hires a new pastor. This new pastor is outspoken. He's charismatic. People are drawn to him.
Soon, word of his powerful sermons spreads throughout Morris County. Thousands with a hunger for this type of preaching start traveling up Green Pond Rd. to hear him speak on Sunday mornings. Initially, GPBC has to turn many away because their santuary quickly fills to capacity. They quickly realize that they can accomadate many more by adding services. They expand their Sunday schedule to include 8 services that spread through-out the day.
As a result, Sunday on Green Pond Rd. becomes the busiest traffic day of the week. At several different times of the day, there is a heavy stream of traffic heading in one dirrection or the other.
Several residents in the area start registering their complaints with RT officials because of the added traffic and the increased time it takes them to travel down Green Pond Rd. They demand that town officials take action and put an end to this.
THE QUESTION:
What could legally be done to stop this situation?

Our friends and neighbors attend that church. If they got a new pastor and the word spread, the influx would be gradual. It's a no-brainer in my opinion."
By 'no-brainer' you mean that the answer is that nothing should be done to stop this because of all the reasons that you stated?
Growth would be gradual. I don't know that the community would feel that it must be "stopped" as you put it.
The limits of the growth from a facilities perspective, I suppose, would be up to the planning board if attempting to build larger facilities.
And the limits of traffic on the road, I suppose, would either have to be dealt with by the church contributing to making changes to the roadway as applicable to accommodate its traffic, or by a limit to the number of people at each service.
But I think your real question was answered in my first post:
"Why would it be okay with residents for Green Pond Bible Chapel to grow, but not okay for Christ Church to come here with its 5,000 members?"
The scenario posted listed no structural changes to GPBC. Their current sanctuary could probably be set up to seat about 700 people. And they likely have function rooms that could accomadate a few hundred more with the sermon beamed in on a video screen. Their current parking lot could likely accomadate the cars for each service.
This is not a religious question.
It regards traffic & impact of a church. What could be more germane?
Karen has provided and honest answer, yet you others here appear to be afraid of this question.
If we say (as Karen did) "This is a no brainer, sure we'd welcome thousands of Christians traveling up GP Rd. to a church which is already here. That church is made up of people who already live here, our family, our friends. We'd be happy to have them"
Then the "Thinker" might say:
OK, tell me the significant difference between that scenario and CC.
And your response?
GPBC is one of our 14 local churches.
CC will also be one of your 'local churches' when they move in.
It serves our community, with contributions appropriate to this community.
All churches contribute to the community, even CC.
Our friends and neighbors attend that church.
They'll attend CC as well.
If they got a new pastor and the word spread, the influx would be gradual.
It might be, it might not. But the point is that the numbers COULD reach CC numbers, and it COULD happen very quickly.

This forum allows all to speak. It also allows those of us who do NOT want to take your bait to be silent.
At times, silence is golden.
If "Rockaway Truth" continues to post their LIE about who runs this site, it only serves to show what they are made of....This forums is open to all - unlike nj.con, you do not see posts that are 'politically incorrect' being removed.
I think that cc needs to hire a new shill. Matthew, under any pseudonym, is obviously the same guy and we see it. Ireland, time to fire Matthew and hire someone with a new and different inflamatory tone that might take us a week or so to figure out. Maybe even try a new angle?

I wonder where the "Rockaway Truth" online forum might be hiding? I wonder if they'd let those opposed to Christ Church's application to purchase 140 Green Pond Road post messages?
Well Matthew - when do we get to post on YOUR message board?
Hmmm ... yeah, perhaps, but at what *cost* ... take a look at the totally unfounded, untrue, and unproveable accusations and replies I (and I suspect others) have received to my various postings ... along with the replies I'm likely to get to my posting this message (having come out of 'lurkdom,' after all!)... and tell me what incentive there is for anyone to participate ... chances are pretty good they'll be 'run off the forum' for something or another if their views, opinions and thoughts are ANY different to the paranoic norm that exists here.
While the forum *allows* all to speak ... it's not, by any means, open for business for anyone who (a) disagrees with the anti-cc crowd, or (b) seeks to engage in debate and discussion for whatever purpose and intent ...
Given this, is it any wonder the 'outside world' comes to the perceptions and conclusions it does ?? (rhetorical question).
In any case, I could care less about any of it ... just couldn't resist sharing my thoughts on the statement quoted above.
Bystander, I recall several very diplomatic posts of yours--it's my opinion that you and craig rubbed each other the wrong way or whatever (I think one other person felt the same).
I also don't think it really matters in all honesty what people who come on this board think about us.
Even if the members of the PLANNING board came on here and thought we were a bunch of jerkoffs, what would that change? Nothing that I can think of.
The law has to be followed.
I see this board as a place to vent, commiserate, and share ideas--
(( I see this board as a place to vent, commiserate, and share ideas ))
Yes, I know you do .... and of course, anyone is welcome to vent, commiserate and share ideas.
My point is, however, that the venting, commiserating and sharing of ideas is not always well received ... and, for the most part, it's also only OK if it's in agreement with the anti-cc crowd here ... because if it isn't, you're (the generic you're) treated like dirt with false and unfounded accusations and opinions.
In the long run of it all, does it matter? Of course it doesn't. Does it matter what other people think? Of course it doesn't. But, to me, it should. Accountability AND perception are everything, ESPECIALLY in such a vulnerable venue such as an anonymous message board.
It's really no big deal though (shrug). Oh, and for what it's worth, your opinion of craig rubbing me the wrong way or whatever ... is an opinion that's incorrect. But I think it's correct the other way. I wasn't aware it was just one other person besides craig, either, who took exception to my being here and posting messages ... I'm not sure if that means then that all those 'nicknames' were really just all from one person or not -
Bystander...you said if people disagree with the opposers of the move they are treated like dirt....
For the most part, what I have seen from the supporters of the move are people making false staements about Lisa and Kim's families and why they started VORT...or people who are angry at the world because they weren't chosen to become mayor....or people who act like paid shills or trolls working for Ireland spouting propehcy...throwing gas on a dry pile of twigs folowed by a lit match -I'm talking about tyring to divide a town using religion....or dumping accusations of racism.
Do you expect anyone to just sit back, stay silent or whimper at this???
Also mixed into the above is the next disqualifier of supporters.....If you seek to or will benefit from the move, or are not a taxpayer in town, do you really have a right to support the move for any other reason except that you have some legal or constitutional right to do so?? If so...Fine....but the debate and class of the response from an opposer on this board will be different than if you actually were a resident with nothing to gain financially.
While I have met (believe it or not) some local residents unware of this...and 1 or 2 that don't care...I have not met anyone informed, that wants it( remember the qualifier-resident that will gain gain FINACIALLY)....the VAST majority of residents I talk with completely oppose the move.
(( Do you expect anyone to just sit back, stay silent or whimper at this??? ))
Of course not... all I take exception to is the method, style, tone of which some are taking in not sitting back, staying silent etc... I've always been a big fan of manners and diplomacy - on and offline, that's all.
(( the rest of your message )) ....
Is a breath of fresh air and extremely pleasant and enjoyable to read. Well said, too. (even if you were in a rush) ... It would be SO much nicer if a lot more messages here were the same (from both sides of the cc-table)...
I guess my bottom line is that I personally find it extremely frustrating to read some of the stuff here that's so emotionally opinionated and accusatory and, to me, often, unprovable. (I know - who cares) I've also always never liked being told what I think about something (etc) without checking with me first to see if it's true or not. My little peccadillo (shrug), what can I say. That happens a lot here, I have noticed. ... I've stated clearly that I am not a cc-supporter ... yet have been told I am and treated (as dirt) here as if I am. Makes me wonder what else, if anything, is also POSSIBLY not true about some of the stuff I read around here. Just never know. That's why accountability and perception, to me, is so important when it comes to venues like these.
Welcome to the real world. We in this town are biased in our perspective regarding this application and are very emotional about this issue. We do not want em destroying this place. Now, please go away since you do not have a horse in this race. Go find a debating society to deal with. We are, by human nature, emotional beings and most of us want to vent here regarding our frustrations. Please take your ball and go home.
(( Now, please go away since you do not have a horse in this race. ))
I do have a horse in this race.
I'm not saying NOT to vent ... it's all in the delivery and presentation.
To my knowledge, this is NOT just a message board for this application, either. Administrator (Karen?) -- PLEASE let me know if that is correct or not.
She already packed it in several times Craig...I believe this is just Matthew's alter ego getting in touch with his feminine side...
Oh yeah, by the by, this is the same emotional poster whom asked for all their posts to be deleted - does this smell fishy for someone whom repeatedly returns to muddy the waters?????
