My phone just rang with a rather funny story! A longtime VORT supporter was on nj.com and asked me if VORT had hired a PR firm?
Thanks for the laughs! But no all of our efforts are from concerned citizens. The only one with a PR firm is Christ Church.
We have the citizens of Rockaway Twp and the truth supporting us, we do not need a PR team to set up press ops for us or plan free movies. The next planning board meeting is May 19, 2004 at 8pm Morris Knolls. It should be an interesting meeting and will give us all a good idea as to how this application will progress. If the application stays in front of the planning board or if it moves to the board of adjustments is really not that big of a deal, the application will be heard in accordance with the law either way.
I am simply amazed as the BS these people spin. I am also amazed at the facts they fail to mention.
I was raised here in Rockaway Twp., attended school here, and attended church here. I know what morals and eithics I was raised with and that I am raising my child with. If the people who are posting these lies, myths and nonsence are representitive of the people who will seek to live here, attend church here and participate in our community - I would suggest they are in great need of some sole searching.
"we do not need a PR team to set up press ops for us or plan free movies."
You seem to know that CC's PR firm arranged the free movie in Morristown. I was at that movie and it appeared to me that it was CC's Youth Minister that was running things. Although I can't assume that he "set up" and "planned" the movie, it appears that by your statement you know that it was the PR firm that was responsible.
I am sure that you would be able to provide proof of this statement, for I would guess that you wouldn't ever put yourself in the position of being the one who "started a rumor". Would you?
Come on Matthew, give us a break. Had CC EVER done this thing before?? For the folks of the town there are from??? We may have renecks, but we ain't stupid.
As CC intends to serve Morris County when they move here, it appears that hosting the movie was just one step in that direction. The families that attended didn't appear to see the "foul" motives that have been implied. Churches sponser events like this quite often. That's why it is odd that CC is being attacked for doing it.
In any case, the question still remains as to Lisa's assertion that the event was "set up" by the PR Firm. I will be waiting for her to provide proof of this statement.
While there may not be any proof that the PR firm "set up" the movie, they sure were behind getting the news story into the Daily Record. C'mon Matthew, You know what they are up to. They are being paid to portray CC in a positive light, so that when the board rejects this plan, RT looks like the bad guy. Any church or organization that is on the up-and-up should not have to resort to these kind of tatics. There actions will speak for themselves, and boy have Ireland's actions spoken.
(( ... they sure were behind getting the news story into the Daily Record ... ))
So what?
Regardless of who was or was not involved in getting the news story (any news story) into the Daily Record (or any other publication) ..... I'm perplexed as to what is inherently wrong with doing something like that??
It's refreshing to be able to read nice news for a change. If it's intent was to 'toot one's horn - then that's also no different than so many other good-news community stories I read in all newspapers, local ones in particular.
Again, there is likely no proof what-so-ever that the PR firm go the story into the paper.
As I recall, the day the event took place, there were postings in this forum and NJ.com's that had all the details of the event. I have also been told that there are several reporters who monitor these forums to keep abreast of rumors and such.
Those reporters could have easily gotten the information from a number of places. Not to mention that it was advertised for weeks on the 99.1 radio station.
But again, the rumorsabond here by the opposers, attempting to portray CC in the worst possible light.
But no facts have been offered by Lisa or any other (nameless) opposer to substantiate their claims.
The point is this was never done for his own town before - one would think that his kids would need some attention before reaching out to Morris County. Please do not insult our intelligence by claiming this was anything more than a PR stunt. If it looks like $hit, smell like $hit, guess what? Thats right...get the point now??
Unless you have been a member with them since the beginning, I'm not sure how you can make a statement like this. Among the other things that are now awaiting proof on this thread, please add this new one to your list. Please prove how you know CC has never sponsored a community outreach like this before.
I find it ironic that Lisa titled this thread "Gossip Control" and then proceeded to sprinkle her post with gossip, and now (unnamed) opposers continue to follow her lead.
To everyone - these type of posters are baiting you all into these religious/off topic b.s. This is a stategy to derail the real issues - size, impact and impossibility of this proposed Mega_Complex.
By the by Matt - for what is worth to you - you can inform your Reverend that there is a better than 99% chance that RT will build the new school at 140 GPR. End of this sharade.
it was stated they never did this in our area...not that it was never done before...
and if they have done it in our area before (i don't believe they have) it was never publicized like it was this time - which lends to the belief that this was merely a publicity stunt...

No, Maria, that is not what was stated. It was stated that CC had never done this for their own town before:

Many here have chosen to argue all around the point that I have made. It is this: It appears that Lisa has in fact started a rumor by implying that CC's PR firm set up the Morristown movie.
I suspect that it was not only a publicity stunt, but a recruitment tool as well. Does anyone really believe that the cc did not take advantage of this situation and not peddle their wares?

Craig,
I was there. I didn't see any CC items (or any 99.1) items being sold there. The only selling that was done was at the Museum gift store.
One of the biggest items in the state of NJ was being sold and you did not even notice it. It is called "Christ Church." It was so big that you did not even see it! Guess you could not see the Forest from the Trees.

This so called rumor was not started by Lisa in this thread. There was much discussion on this in the past in this forum and on NJ.com

BJR,
Thanks for the clarification.
Is repeating unsubstantiated statements (aka rumors, gossip) better than starting them?
Too much time is being wasted on form and not enough on function. This board and the one at NJ.Com have both become a parade of fools ;in large measure.
The issue is the scale of this project and if it fits in Rockaway township or not.(Note the period at the end of the last sentence)
The "Issues" of Pr firms, my God is better than your God,You think your God is better than my God, etc., are not relevent to the application of Christ Church.
I, like many in the township, am opposed to the scale of this project at the present time, from what I have heard and seen at the planning board meetings, not from what I have heard and seen from the town bulletin board whiners.
To those who wish to make issues out of the non-issues such as race and religion, if you really care to make Rockaway a better place to live, please just move somewhere else.
With any kind of luck, this group of 25,000 fundies (fundamentalist christians) will find another place here in RT and move to the end of YOUR block (as they have decided to do on MINE). Then, we shall see how you feel about the religious aspects of things! Get off your high horse.
Bigoted or not, I am a straight shooter and I do not like funamentalist christians or what they stand for. And I certainly do not want em down the street from me. Enjoy your liberal approach to things.

Not so, Craig. CC was definately mentioned. Several time the MC of the event (a STAR 99.1 DJ) invited all attendees to visit CC at their current location in Montclair.
But there was payment required for anything that was given away on that day. So technically, your statement is incorrect.
I would agree with you if you said that the goal woud be to augment the membership of CC, thus increasing the "tithe income". But since all churches benefit financially when new members join, this doesn't only apply to CC, so it really isn't worth noting.
