Here is a general question to the community. Have you read about the proposed "Highlands Bill?" Should we support it given the cc situation? It looks to me like it may serve as an advantage to us to support it given our "dire straights" in RT with regards to cc, and it's effect our community. Generally, I am a conservative politically, but here, the pros of this bill may outweight the cons.
Please post your opinions (except for retarded ones from the Town Clown). I would assume that all of us are interested in the collective opinion about this bill.
While there are still some issues that need attention prior to the bill being in a form that is good for the farmers - the Highlands bill will help put an end to urban sprawl in our wonderful RURAL area! Yes, you will be able to live in your homes, add decks, pools and even a new bedroom if you need it...it is the BIG DEVELOPERS that will be stopped from destroying our land!
YEH the Gov. ACTUALLY DID SOMETHING GOOD FOR US!!!!!!! I NEVER thought I would see the day when I say Yeh Jim!!!
Stop them from building low income housing? Not unless low income folks can afford a 5 bedroom 3 car garage McMansion on 2+ acres. Please, the developers are as ruthless and money hungry as any "big bussines" out there.
I'm not sure I am well versed enough to comment on the Highlands Bill, but whatever it turns out to be there must be a level of balance. RT needs to continue responsible development to bring new tax revenues into town. I don't know about you folks, but I am not happy with my 12K annual tax bill. With the increasing cost of education and less state money to support it, were will it end? Don't get me wrong, RT is a nice town, but when my taxes go up to 20K...I'm out of here.
To support this bill on it's own merits seems in large measure to be logical considering our shrinking open space and need to protect water supply. To suggest that we support it "considering the Christ Church application" is self serving and misdirected.
