Four arrested in connection with FDU brawl, shooting
...All four individuals were charged with possession of a .40-caliber handgun. Steven R. Wright, 20, of Jersey City also was charged with possession with the purpose of using the weapon unlawfully. Wright is being held in the Morris County jail on $75,000 bail.
The others arrested include Syyid Chester, 23, of Irvington; Vaughn A. Floyd, 23, of Newark; and Maurice A. Hunt Davis, 22, of Newark. Davis also was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana. All three are being held on $50,000 bail.
The four men, none of whom are FDU students, were stopped at the Park Drive checkpoint as they tried to leave FDU after the disturbance. Their car, along with another vehicle, was impounded at about 10 Sunday morning.
Officials in the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said they believe they have identified the shooter; they just need to find him.
Saturday night's deejay event, hosted by the student organization Association of Black Collegians, erupted in a fight early Sunday morning that spilled outside the center and resulted in several knifings and one gunshot wound. The campus was in a lockdown throughout Sunday, with no cars allowed in students having to provide their names if they wanted to leave...
Agree or disagree however you wish. There is good and bad in all communities. Where these kids live is not why they did what they did. Think back to the "PIZZA MURDER" in Franklin.
These kids made POOR choices and that is that. Thankfully everyone is alive. Let us not detract from the issues at hand.
Ok. I understand where you are coming from, but I have to ask; what does this have to do with the application? Thinking like that and stereotyping is not what is needed or accepted in most people's eyes. I'm sorry. I don't support the church coming to Rockaway Twp. but I also don't support that kind of thinking. CC members have not done anything or said anything bad about Rockaway or it's residents. And I really don't think it's fair to assume that because some of these towns have bad reputations that their residents are going to come to Rockaway and ruin the town. And maybe it's just that I am alittle naïve, but what happened at FDU as nothing to do with the application nor did I read or hear that those individuals had anything to do or were members of CC. So, please don't go down that road. It just puts a bad taste in people's mouths. Not to mention, gives Ted Doty something more to scream about. Just my opinion. Take it or leave it. Just exercising my right to free speech.
Hmmm. There does seem to be an increase in the statistical frequency of crimes in the mentioned cities and towns compared to RT. I guess it is "politically incorrect" to make such an observation.
I disagree with bigotry--it's wrong to judge a person based on the actions of a group. You judge a person based on the actions of the person.
Is it wrong to judge the group based on the actions of the group?
Like craig, I disagree with hate and bigotry (ted you're the hatemonger of all hatemongers so you shouldn't talk!) but can't disagree with the statistics--can you?
Karen, I have to say I agree 100%. The purpose of posting this tragic event on this board was only done as an attempt to draw race into the debate. I am sickened by such an attempt. The opposition to the application to re-develop the 140 Green Pond Rd. location is based upon environmental issues, traffic, demands on infrastucture and loss of taxes.
I have said this before and I will say it again, The members of Christ Church are not the issue, it is the number of people, the size of the project and the destruction of our environment that are the problem.
FDU's problems are Madisons/Florham Parks to deal with not ours. I wish all of the injured a speedy recovery and that those responsible be held accountable for their actions.

I am sure you wish that were true, but the truth is surely a sad one.

And who entered the first post on this message - you perhaps? Stirring the pot a bit?
We all know there are racists and idiots wherever you go. We have a few right here in Rockaway Township too. Guess what - CC isn't getting any smaller because of them.
Oh, by the way, how about that CC supporter R.J. posting his hatred on HIS website. Forced to take it down in one day I here. Like I said...people from both sides...
I did not know that high crime rates = racism. I guess RT need to "embrace" more crime so that we can become more diverse. Do I now have that concept down pat? Maybe there should be a state law that all felons after serving time must be sent to low crime rate town like RT to live so that the Crime Rate is more evenly distributed amongst all towns. Maybe a "fair share Quota" system of crime sharing amonst towns in NJ would make it much more fair for those folks living in crime plagued towns. Is that what some of you folks consider fair and non-racist??
…and just because you’re a Christian doesn’t mean you don’t break the law and/or do things that hurt others.
…and just because the parents go to church doesn’t make the youth a Christian.
The truth hurts.
A person only needs to look at urban areas to see how people from an urban area care for their OWN community. And I’m not certain everyone takes care of communities they’re just “passing through” as well as they do their own.
Why do we wear our seatbelts when we drive? Because statistically, we are less likely to be seriously injured or killed in an auto accident if we wear them.
Why do we drive more slowly in residential neighborhoods than on highways? Because statistically, our chances of hitting someone are much higher in an area where people might be wandering about.
Why do we live in Rockaway Township instead of Fort Lee?
Aside from trees, what does a rural area offer?
Statistically, more people = more crime, regardless of race or income level.
Further, statistically, and unfortunately, minorities are at a lower income level, and are forced to live in areas like Newark.
Statistically, crime is much higher in Newark and Irvington.
How can we welcome 5,000 people from these areas to converge upon this community and not expect some negative effect?
Why don’t WE live in Newark or Irvington or Jersey City?
Safety, for one thing. Happiness, another.
Why can’t we walk down the streets of Newark alone at night?
Why CAN we walk down the streets of, say, Denville alone at night (for lack of a “downtown” RT)?
I don’t live in an urban area because I want to live in an area that has space. There is space between my family and the families around us. If there is a negative influence in my neighborhood, at least it’s far enough from my house that my children don’t have to step over it on their way to school.
I want to live in an area that is beautiful and still has beauty surrounding it, not cement and steel.
I want to live in an area that is not noisy, polluted, crime-ridden, and congested with traffic.
That’s why I live in Rockaway Township and will work with other residents to keep this town the way it is…
Selfish? Yeah. Too bad, I have to look out for myself, my family, and my community. God knows others are!
The admission that you equate CC members with criminals. No surprise. Thanks for the confirmation though. Guess you'll have to take your "white flight" to Pennsylvania next.
karen...it's quite clear that these people would argue if you said the sky was blue...and ted would just say you're clueless (oops...i made a joke...does that mean i'm not a proud person???)
statistics are facts...indesputable...but they just spin it - turn it into a racial issue...maybe ireland - if he truly cared - should build his kingdom in a less fortunate neighborhood...someplace that needs his guidance and try to bring them to a higher level...
seems like he's running from these areas...hyprocrite!!!

62. Stolen Cars In Irv by IrvJersey, 10/20/03 15:02 ET
This is ashame. Last week, I'm outside and i seen these young boys stealing a car, of course they didnt know how to drive, because they ended up crashing into another car head on. An hour later the same kids were in another stolen vehicle, and it was also brought to my attention that one of the boys father is a cop for the city.
