ROCKAWAY TWP. -- The owner of the 107-acre tract where Christ Church of Montclair wants to build has filed two property tax appeals against Rockaway Township, according to records released Wednesday by the state tax court.
The appeals by Agilent Technologies, stemming from a $674,500 municipal tax bill in 2004 and a bill this year for approximately the same amount, seek an unspecified reduction in the site's $25,264,000 assessed value.
Vacant since 2002
Agilent's office complex has been vacant since October 2002, eight months before the company reached a $14 million sales agreement with the 5,000-member church, Agilent spokesman Bob Lydum said.
Mayor Louis Sceusi said the township will contest Agilent's effort to lower its local tax bill, which represents about 2 percent of the township's overall tax base.
