Answer from Mr. Betz

Sadly, I find Mr. Betz's answer as disengenous as I have found Reverand Ireland's testimony.  Please read the following:

I understand that there has been a campaign targeting a specific participant in the Rockaway Forum who expresses views that are unpopular with those of an activist organization in the town. This campaign has included the use of "mocking" forum nicknames to outright threats of violence, specifically, lynching him from a streetlight.

This behavior is intolerable. We delete these posts not to limit discussion, but to enforce a reasonable standard of online conduct.

We invite people from any side of local issues in Rockaway to take part in our forum, and if you review message in the forum you'll see a range of views posted there. NJ.com has no position on local issues in Rockaway. Our role is to provide space for people to discuss what matters to them in the town.

I responded back with two emails:

Mr. Betz,

Yesterday's discussion was not about 'mocking' or 'lynching' (I never saw that one), or anything else. It was a conversation that started with a simple question of (restated) "do you believe what the Daily Record said which is contrary to your own stated opinion - even though you have constantly supported the Daily Record"

Please look at the entire thread of 1721. There is nothing wrong with the questions or the answers, except that the answers were totally evasive. In the end, this person, todddavid state he had to leave and 60 minutes later, ALL the posts were removed.

Again, this is very one-sided. Please tell me what is wrong with ANY of the information in 1721 posted below. I would like to repost the thread to your website, but am afraid that I will be banned if I do so.

Please tell me if I can post it again without fear of banishment or if not, please give me a reason WHY the message can not be left on your board.

Mr. Betz,

I should have added this in my email. The people who resorted to 'mocking' are doing so out of frustration. For months, people tried having 'normal' conversations with this person and found that they were removed. As for name calling, I personally was called a 'stalker' by this person back in December for the simple act of catching him in a lie and looking up a name he mentioned in the phone book to prove the person mentioned did not exist. Where were the nj.com censors back then protecting me? They were no where to be seen. When the person in question was caught in his lie though, all the posts relating to the lie were removed.

Again, all I am requesting is that you give people EQUAL access to posting without their posts being removed. By removing posts, you are causing people to act out of frustration.

Oh my God! I got the same response.

Either he didn't do the research and look at the posts on this site, or he's part of the scam.

Crooked, crooked, crooked!

Let's see how long this "threatening" thread lasts. btw, I asked yesterday for it to be removed because of the suggestion that vort doesn't care about anything but fighting with everyone. As you can see, it's still there. So obviously no one agreed that this was offensive.

Disgusting.

1731. Will vort support a public school
by RTnowandthen, 3/16/04 21:37 ET

Why is vort silent on this. I thought they said they were interest in the community are they willing to support a public school for the kids in RT.I hope they are not going to be one of those groups that only complains about things and wants to fight wth everyone. Do they want nothing to ever go where agilent was? Vort do you have a soultion for the agilent property or are you only interested in fighting anyone who wants to build there.Pleasesupport a public school for our kids.

(ALL SUBSEQUENT RESPONSES FROM YESTERDAY WERE DELETED; these are from today)

vort will support the kids and the town if they want to build a school where agilent is. I am sure it will be on the website soon they are all for it. If they were against a school they would be going against the town.

1731.2. The real question

Re:

The more important question is "will the megachurch support a school". If they will agree to withdraw their application in favor of putting a school there, we can all be happy.

Also remember that the agilent site is only one of three possible choices. Even if it is selected, it may very well be only partially needed for the school. Let's not forget that the megachurch is still the real issue and not get too sidetracked with the one in three chance of a school acquiring part of the site.

A school is not the issue. VORT was formed to inform RT residents about the CC application. Why are people looking for VORT to support something? People think for yourself. If you are passionate about the school do something. VORT has there hands full with the CC application. Last time I checked, the CC application is the current issue (traffic/impact, environment).

I doubt vort would fight a school because a school wouldn't have to double the size of the building, the school could work with the building from the "walls in". A school also wouldn't have to destroy 24 acres of wetlands with 1000 additional parking spots. A school also wouldn't endanger the two trout streams with additional stormwater runoff. A school also wouldn't have 5000 pupils. A school also wouldn't be so strict on when Rockaway residents could use the ballfields. A school also wouldn't discriminate on who they hire.

But besides that, you make a great point (cough).

A school also would guarantee that it it will have 100% participation from Rockaway residents....not less than 1%.

Re:

The school is a separate issue. The BOE and the PB will have to look at the pros and cons. It should not distract the residents from the CC application.

If a school did come, it would directly serve the RT community. The school would be filled with RT residents.

1731.3.2.1. ALl about growth
by ProtectRTWP, 3/17/04 7:23 ET
Re:

Remember - a MAJOR issue is future growth.

Christ Church would still want to grow even after reaching 25,000 members.

A scholl will be 'capped' (as our friend here likes to say) in the hundreds of students, who will be bussed in. Not a lot of traffic from 25 schoolbuses and 100 staff.

1732. Question for todddavid
by ProtectRTWP, 3/17/04 8:28 ET

Now that you've had a day to think about it, do you agree with the article in yesterday's Daily Record when it states "The 5,000-member Christ Church's building plan on Green Pond Road, including a 3,000-seat sanctuary and private K-5 school, has generated enormous local opposition"

Do you agree that there is ENORMOUS LOCAL OPPOSITION?

Please tell us which statement is true (only one can be true):

1. There is enormous local oppostion.

2. Most in town are fine, either way.

Note - if you tell us that statement #2 is correct, you are stating that Mr. Jennings of the Daily Record is incorrect in his statements.

Please tell us your answer Todd.
