The Fleetwood property is too small I think and there has been community opposition in the past. I also has rocks and slopes.
The other property lies between Mt Pleasent Ave and those offices at the coner of Fleetwood and Mineral Spring Drive. It's a nice piece of property but I think a major developer alredy has claims on it... also most BOE members know nothing about it.
I have no problem with them building a school on Green Pond, as I plan to have a child in the next year or so and would hope to give him or her the best opportunity at school by not being in an overcrowded classroom.
I wonder, what if the whoel CC thing was a conspiracy by the town to get the new school built by making it the lesser of two evils.
Maybe they knew would have meet resistance from the residnets, if they tried buying the land but with the other option being CC, people are much more okay with a new school.
Dear Conspiracy, you may be on to something. The sewer line ends at Agilent and the district can’t add on to KDM. A school at 140 Green Pond Rd is as close to the North End as you can get.
Keep in mind however, classrooms are not overcrowded district wide. Over the last 5 yrs we increased 119 students (per demographer’s report) and we built 20 classrooms. There's still room left.
Everything north of Meriden Rd has septic systems; the one for KDM is ”maxed out” making an addition next to impossible or a new north end school…well, next to impossible. Access to a sewer hookup is critical
I thonk I understand. so would you say that at this point in time, if a new school were needed which i understand you don't think so, this would be the most logical place (or maybe even the only place to do it).?
No, it's not the only place. But the folk up north would like a school near them. Redistricting would be required (bussing kids accross town) to eleviate overcrowding at KDM.
If a district wide 5th & 6th grade school were built at Agilent, only older kids would need bussing and the little ones could remain in nieghborhood schools with enough room for a long time.
The current middle school would become a Jr. high (7th & 8th) with enough space for a long time as wel.
But since new kids will come from the southern part of town , an addition to DBO will suffice
