DEP strengthens Highlands Act






Highlands Water Protection and Planning Rules, N.J.A.C. 7:38
Summary of Action:
Special Adoption of immediately effective rules to implement the enhanced environmental standards established in the Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act, N.J.S.A. 13:20-1 et seq. The rules incorporate the requisite standards of various land use and water and resource environmental protection statutes and establish a consolidated Highlands permitting review and approval process for activities constituting major Highland development. After a 45-day consultation period with the Highlands Council, the State Planning Commission, and the Departments of Community Affairs, Transportation, and Agriculture, the Department will propose for public comment amendments to the specially adopted rules to reflect, as appropriate, the results of the consultation.

This information was released today. It is clear that the DEP has been working hard to get the final touches on the Highlands Act.  This is one step closer to protecting our water and our community.
