I just was reviewing CC website. I just noticed this service they provide.
Park & Ride Shuttle Service Courtesy — Convenience — Comfort. That's what you will experience when you use the new Park and Ride Shuttle Service. Starting on Sunday, January 16th , this free service will enable you to park your vehicle in a large parking lot and enter a clean, comfortable mini-coach bus which will drop you directly in front of the Cathedral. Look for details of this great service which will be distributed and made available at the Information Center 0.
I wonder where they will find any available area around here?
Any business that doesn't operate on Sunday (which most of them don't) would be a candidate. The business would gain additional revenues for using it's empty parking lots which would not be bad for them. For example, what about BASF at the rockaway mall or any of the businesses in the industrial park off green pond road approx 1 mile away. I'm sure there are many others. How do our ordinances deal with this potential issue?

What a way to get the Fleetwood section of town up in arms...shuttle buses roving down Fleetwood.
Kim - to answer your question. I believe that it would be a rare business that did not "cooperate" for the right rental fee, just like Agilent cooperated. In their view, it's nothing personal, it's just business.
I would be most concerned with that large commercial park, I believe it's on Commons Way, just off green pond road. It's really just a stones throw away.
Not so easy the way I see it. This is a new building - they have to meet the standards for parking spaces per seat. They have to be able to ''stand on their own" What if they do depend on a contract with a local business and that business then moves or begins operations of Sunday and they are no longer able to use the space - then what happens?
They have to build in compliance (no that does not mean exemption) with the law.

RT Concern - Thanks for the information. It makes me feel a little better. I guess one key to managing the potential size is to be able to effectively put a cap on maximum capacity. Otherwise, CC can complete with the number of seats vs parking spaces to get approval. Subsequently, they could put the seats closer together or have standing room only spaces with the additional congregants being bused in from off site parking. Hopefully something can be done about this potential problem.
Isn't the ordinance 1 parking spot per 3 people? If yes... that makes it easier for cc
CC knows that's not reality as they are using 1.7-1.9 which is why they are fighting so hard for parking... they don't have enough parking & they know it... in fact if they use overflow rooms, they'll need 2000+ spots
as to getting free parking from corporations in the area... every mega knows that is perhaps the easiest thing to do in a process like this... I wouldn't count on that being tough for them

There is absolutely no problem in finding land around here for that purpose. Ironically and reecently, I was down in Newark visiting my olde alma mater, NCE - NJIT. If you look south from the courthouse building, there used to be a huge tract of housing there. Many a block and total neighborhoods have been completely bulldozed to the ground to the extent that sections of Newark are begining to look like the countryside in Sparta. It is turning back into farmland! Anyway, the section that I mention is hundreds of acres to my eye. Why not park there?? The land is probably available for free for the asking!!
