I agree he'll probably modify the plans to get his foot in the door, but how does he know it will work? Especially with a CO being pulled if he exceeds the number of people. And what about the people who are giving their hard earned money? Can there be any justification for spending $14,000,000 (just for the property) and you can't even build to the extremes you want. Is it blind faith or are they all in on the little secret? That being why it's so important to get into RT.

I second Thinkers train of thought - why is it do or die for mR iNTEGRITY to get into Rockaway Township??? There is something that we as a township are missing...

Maybe he is anxious to use his community development corporation?  Besides, there is NO WAY that a town would yank a CO on a church in that cirucmstance, just NO WAY!!!  Come on folks, you know better than that.  Can you imagine the headlines???

It's interesting that CC has not yet filed suit although it's really not that surprising.  Two possible reasons come to mind:

1. CC has consulted with their legal experts and determined that they really do not have much of a case at this point since the ordinance is reasonable given the facts and circumstances.

2. Rather than risk the lawsuit and hold things up they would rather take what they can get without suiing to get their foot in the door.  After that, RT does not have the Agilent tax revenues to support litigation and the advantage shifts to CC.

Although I'd like to think that reason #1 is the answer, RT should do everything it can to guard against the second motive.  CC will be looking for loopholes and ways to circumvent any restrictions on growth since they obviously are not moving so that they can stay the same size.

Could you please explain just exactly how Ireland is going to restrict his growth?  He builds and they will come, as it went in the movie (Field of Dreams).  What are you going to have him do?  Turn them away at the doors?  LOL!!

You know I just can't get this repeating question out of my head....

Why, is this location and building so darn important???? There have been many places that are at least as good, and really are better suited for his plans.
Is the 14 mil price tag really such a bargain?

I cannot imagine it being that mush a bargain when all he is buying is land and tear-down building...certainly he could find 100 acres somewhere for 14 million....c'mon....that's a lot of bread for just cleared land.

At first it may have appeared a good deal, and I think he did not expect such resistance, or he would have never made the statement that if Rockaway didn't want him, he would not bring his fair grounds here.

I think the town and residents have made it clear that we don't want his monstrosity.
After the first couple of meetings and people began to make noise, I think he's switched his thoughts and reasons to pursue this... he must be that he is looking for a fight.

I bet he's now interested in this so he can gain notoriety, win a cash settlement, and give his congregants a point to rally around. A group is always stronger and more enthusiastic when it has demons to fight.

Clearly, this deal makes no sense on the surface to all of us in RT.  Mark, who knows what is going on "behind the scenes" here.  Clearly, we are not seeing the "hole" cards associated with this deal.  But, there is something going on that would explain the answer to your question if only we were privy to the behind the scenes deals going on.  To quote the cliche' "Where there is smoke, there is fire!"

One possibility is that he is interested in changing the demographics of his congregation.  The ability to pay factor is significantly higher in Morris County than drawing from Newark, Bloomfield, etc.  Just a thought.

Show me the money!  That is the issue.  What is the largest money making industry in the country  - that requires no product, no manufacturing, and what can you make up as you go along??  Can you say Ireland University??  Name one Christian College in the North East?  Not many are there--- there is a great deal of money in 'adult education'  and it explains the need for so many class rooms as well as the early on mention of dorms!

Just a thought.

Indeed that is the question of the hour. Why is that particular piece of land SO important to him. It certainly seems that he could have already been producing shows in his new palace if he went elsewhere to build. I agree that there has to be something else going on that we are not privy to. Even the reported "deal" that the purchase price is $14M, but they are actually only going to pay $12M and give Agilent a $2M letter of charitable donation isnt that good of a deal after all the trouble and expense they have gone thru, especially when you consider the trouble is really just getting started. The other aspect of this "deal" where CC is paying Agilent a regular stipend to offset their taxes and keep the deal alive is good for them, but again, not that great to go thru all of this. I agree that there must be something else afoot here.

Havent heard much from Dweller lately. What say you, from your prospective?

"Can you say Ireland University??"

Interesting that you say that.  I had heard a rumor about a year or so ago that this has nothing to do with a K-5 school but that, in fact, he is building a Christian Bible School for adults.  I guess, once he has the approvals, what is to stop him from forgetting about K-5 and focus on 12-X?  Nothing, really.  And it would certainly explain the 70 some odd classrooms in his plans.  Keep in mind that 70 classrooms for 500 kids is only 7 kids per classroom.  The national average for K-5 is 25!  Really stinks, doesn't it?

You know, now that you mentioned it, he has used the word "campus", and although I can't quite put my finger on his terminology, and it has been over a year of watching this circus, but I seem to remember at one time, the "Rev" actually saying something about theology classes, or some other post High School education offering? And he was referring to this site.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Mark - I have heard all of those same references at the planning board meetings also, for what it is worth.

Phew....thanks for the confirmation....I feel like I was having an over 40 moment of delusion.
I gotta hand it to him...this guy has done quite a job of blurring reality.
