JOB: HIGHLANDS COALITION EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Date: Dec. 2, 2004 From: New Jersey Conservation Foundation {lashawn@njconservation.org} HIGHLANDS COALITION SEEKS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR The Highlands Coalition, an alliance of over 100 national, state and local organizations working to protect the Highlands region of CT, NY, NJ and PA, seeks an Executive Director to lead and coordinate the efforts of its member groups. The Executive Director will report to the regional board of the Coalition, and will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Coalition 's work including federal, state and local advocacy to protect priority lands and resources, managing staff and consultants, fundraising and program development. Specific responsibilities include: ** Lead advocacy efforts to secure annual federal earmarks for priority land conservation projects in the region, ** Oversee implementation of the NJ Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act, including monitoring work of the Highlands Council, ** Develop state and local land and resource protection initiatives in CT, NY & PA, ** Serve as spokesperson for the Coalition with elected officials and in the media, ** Maximize and coordinate involvement of Board members and member groups, ** Work in consultation with the Board to develop annual budget and raise funds, ** Supervise any staff or consultants hired by the Coalition. Desired qualifications: ** Advanced degree in natural resources, planning, policy or administration, ** Project/staff management experience with a non-profit organization, ** Strong coalition-building and board-management skills, ** Track record of fundraising success, ** Experience in working productively with the media, ** Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, ** Team player and consensus builder, ** Familiarity with Highlands region and issues ** Willingness to travel occasionally throughout the Highlands region.
