I am rather new to the cc situation, so sorry if this has been discussed many times. I went to the "Residents for Truth in Rockaway website" & saw the following info
SUNDAY TRAFFIC NUMBERS
Christ Church:
8:00 AM service 1,306 cars inbound total
(these cars would be moving on Green Pond from 6:30 to 8:00 AM, and from 10:00 to 11:30)
11:00 AM service 1,208 cars inbound
(these cars would be moving on Green Pond from 9:30 to 11:00 AM, and from 1:00 to 2:30 PM)
Because all congregates would not leave at the same time, the total number of cars per hour would be less than
My questions
1) are these the numbers being used by everyone?
2) how many parking spots are they approved for on the site? (looks like they need 1400 minimum)
3) Where is the proposed overflow parking?
3) what were the Wed night service numbers & how would they affect traffic?
Mega Church assumptions & trends
1) the first service is far less attended than the 2nd (usually about 60% as full... a cc congregant will have to leave the montclair area 7:00-7:15 to get in & get a seat...half of them will do that????)
2) At least 150 cars of volunteers will stay for both services
3) The traffic in between services genarlly has mega church roads blocked in both directions
4) the wed. pm service can be expected to draw 25%-35% of the congregation...based on these numbers that is 600 more cars getting off rt 80 from 6:45-7:15 PM (rush hour)
5) the time span of arrivals is deceiving... only a small % arrive well before the service... the vast majority (I would say 80-90%) arrive just before service starts
Hi dweller. Some of your assumptions are valid. Those figures on the (non)Truth website sound like they came from the CC paid traffic survey which has already been shot full of holes by many sources. The most glaring point of which involved their reported breakdown of the time spans for the majority of traffic. Neither that survey or any of the others done by other groups and/or the town have been discussed or testified to in the hearings yet, so all of the discrepancies will be brought out in days to come. I'm not sure on the parking space numbers. The figure of ~1800 seems to stick with me as an initial requirement, but then the church did some fancy footwork with their plans, re-designating some of the rooms from classrooms (which would indicate occupancy, thereby more parking) to storage rooms (thereby reducing parking requirements) as well as reducing overall seating slightly in their auditorium style santuary. Then they proposed reducing the size of all the parking spaces to smaller than is permitted by township ordinance (thereby increasing the density of useage) and voila, they can come up with enough parking space for their mega-business.
