More Press for CC

What a lot of press this church is getting.

Certainly wherever they go, their notariety will gain them many parishioners.

No wonder they can't predict how fast they'll grow.

From the article:

"Christ Church, facing a hesitant citizenry, might want to consider the approach First Baptist took to connect with the community. “Because we are centered in a somewhat depressed area, to build a multimillion-dollar building without reaching out to the community would send a mixed message,” says White. “The plan was to build a church and plan to build the community.”
First Baptist has invested in renovating languishing residences in the area as part of its ongoing outreach. “We are also working with the township in planning to expand a lot of the local businesses.” says White. “It wasn’t just about building the church, it was about building the neighborhood.”

So Mega-churches now want to renovate our "languishing residences"?? I guess that is why his PR firm has alluded to White Medow Late as "White Ghetto Lake".

What an ego...

While that article was published October 13, 2003… there is some interesting testimony entered.

From article: “Ireland hopes to demonstrate how the proposed church can benefit the town. Because of the size of the church, we will generate an economic influx to the community between $5 million and $6 million per year, he says. That estimate is based on a study of the current Christ Church s economic impact on Montclair. Commissioned by the church, it showed that roughly half of the congregants spent $25 each week in the community. Ireland hopes these estimates will calm the grousing about the $630,000 in ratables Rockaway would lose due to its hefty new neighbor s tax-exempt status.”

Currently the church is located within walking distance to shops and eateries….and many of the parishioners currently walk past them to get to the church….here they will all need to drive, or be bused
Do you really think people will stop at the Hibernia diner that often when they are planning am 8,000 sq ft restaurant on site???
Or that many people will need gas at the Exxon on the way out???
By Irelands forumula for propertay tax reimbursement I figure:
630,000 divided by $25 = 25,200 (people), x 2 (because "roughly half of the congregants spent $25 each week ") = 50,400 congregants…. and that revenue is state tax, not property tax….so how does that stop the “grousing” ???

From article: “Ireland also commissioned traffic studies from engineering firms Schoor DePalma in Manalapan and Urbitran Associates in Montville to prove that the thousands of worshipers won t clog the town s roads. We are not going to put any undue congestion on the roadway, he says. Ireland points out that 1,000 Agilent workers once traversed the local streets every weekday. The roadway can handle us, he promises. “

So, 1,000 is the same as 5,000 ??? It thought Ireland was an engineer, he should know simple arithmetic. Perhaps he thinks us country bumpkins can’t see through all this.

We all need to get down on our hands and knees and thank G-d for creating these insitutions.  Why without them, society would just go down the toilet!  (NOT).

Agilent had 900 workers at its peak.  They worked in 3 shifts.  They also worked flex hours which allows an employee to show up in a 3 hour window for that particular shift and then put in their 8 hours - - - that according to Mr. Maier.

The real key here is not the 5000 number.  WHAT IS THE GROWTH?  That is the rub because most intelligent people know that Ireland is building for about 20,000.  He just will not admit it.

That monetary expense is nothing but smoke, like Mark said. The biggest argument against that logic is that even if they did spend all those millions at the locak businesses, putting money in the pockets of a restaurant franchise or an oil company does absolutely nothing to reimburse me or the town for the 2% increase in my property taxes.

Since our taxes will go up 2% (actually it will be much more when we get done re-vamping RT's infrastructure to accomodate these wonderful new neighbors) because of CC, and CC is a so called church, can't we deduct that entire property tax increase from our federal income tax?

And as I've mentioned, even those who stand to make lots of money if the church were to move here, actually donated food and gift certificates for VORT's fund-raiser, so we know where they stand as well.

As a follow up to Karens last posting.  EVERY business we contacted on Green Pond Rd was VERY supportive of our efforts.  I was impressed that a number of them were extremely committed to the community and KNOW that the area is not able to take such a hit when it comes to volume and loss of taxes.  These people could make a few bucks with more traffic but HONESTLY do not seem to want it as they know it will hurt there current customer base.

It was nice to see such a committment to community!

THANKS AGAIN TO ALL OF THEM!!
Lisa
