I have just returned home from the annual American Heart Association Scientific Sessions in New Orleans. I wanted to remind you all how important good heart health is! Here are a few things to keep in mind:
1. Know your family history of heart disease.
2. Know the difference between a "heart attach" and a "cardiac arrest"
HINT - the term "heart attach" is actually not a real definition - it normally refers to a myocardial infarct - death of heart muscle. "Cardiac arrest" is an electrical problem in the conduction system in the heart.
3. Keep your blood pressure under 125/80
4. If you have chest pain or any symptoms of an MI (Myocardial infarct)- take 325 of asprin and get to the ER!
I have attended the AHA meeting for 8 years now and I will tell you there has been a big change in focus. Metobolic disorders are front and center and you will be hearing a great deal about this issue in the comming months.
Stay healthy!
Lisa
