The Sign that Reminds

There is a sign that should remind everyone what our politicians have done to us. Have you seen it yet?

Well, you guessed it. christ church has installed a "christ church" sign on Rockaway Township property, between Green Pond Road and the Streambed.

As a taxpayer, I find that to be detestable and I resent it. It is bad enough that we are forced to support a so called religion that we do not endorse, but to further its cause by permitting advertisning on our property is a real spit in our eyes.

So, I have placed a complaint with the Township on this one with the warning that if the sign is not taken down, maybe I can get the ACLU to do the job.

Is anyone with me on this? Or, like Sceusi and the rest of that bunch, are you all just going to roll over?

Having not seen the sign just yet I have to ask, is this like the old HP/Agilent sign that was present at the entrance for years, or is this some type of billboard?

They have every right to place a sign on the property. The ACLU will tell you this just call and ask them.
Choose your battles - may I suggest you call the DEP!

If they have the right to put a religious sign on Rockaway Township property, I guess that I have the right to put a large menorah there too right next to the "christ church" sign. Maybe I also have the right to put another menorah in front of the Muni Building.

Where did you come up with that one, Lisa? Did the township attorney advise you on that one too? And you bought it? Wow!

At any rate, if the township does not have him take his sign off of township property, then the township will hopefully find itself in a lawsuit with the ACLU. I certainly will give them a call and try to entice them into the fray. Interestingly, RT will be spending taxpayer money to defend ireland. How do ya like that?

Of course there is a way around it. If ireland finds a way to purchase that land from RT, then he can do what he wants with his signage. So, lets sell it to him. I have a price in mind. Do you?

Try dealing in fact Craig. The sign is on property that is and has been for nearly 20 years under an agreement with the town to be used for signage for the property owner. It does not matter what is on the sign as it was approved for signage in a deal with the former owner of the property and they have a right to continue to use it. IF there was no agreement I would agree with you that a religious item may not be permitted on town property however this is not the same as holiday decorations on a town building/property this is a land agreement with a 20 year history.

If you recall the sign is placed on what use to be the front driveway near the old bridge that use to flood - the reason it is there is that the agreement covered that part of the land - they are not permitted to put signage anywhere else on that property.

Like it or not that is the history and there is nothing wrong with the sign - please go check with the ACLU I am sure they will tell you the same.

So can I expect to see you at the town council meeting Tuesday night?

Lisa

Quoting Lisa:

"The sign is on property that is and has been for nearly 20 years under an agreement with the town to be used for signage for the property owner."

---------------------------------------------------------

Is is sad indeed if you do not see the following differentiation:

1. The previous organization (HP and affilliates) were organized as secular entities.

2. They paid about 700 K in taxes to RT, so a little courtesy was in order.

christ church is organized as the following:

1. A church

2. They will not be paying taxes.

There is a little thing in the constitution that mandates the separation of church and state. If RT allows that thing (christ church) to post its non-ambigiously religious signage on public property, then I logically have the right to post my menorah there too.

As for seeing me at the town council meeting, the only thing that you may see is my petition to install my menorah on that property too. I think that menorahs are very attractive and so I want one there. OK? I assume that everyone will honor my request.
