Firefighter was in the wrong To the Editor:
Somebody should advise Robert Jenkins not to admit to a crime before pleading not guilty to it and thus save Rockaway Township's bravest the embarrassment of a court battle they could very well lose. If the reports are correct, the fire department was not called to the scene, it did not follow established procedure in that no cones were set out, the driver of the vehicle did not have a license on his person, and Jenkins admits he disobeyed a state trooper's orders.
Furthermore, Jenkins' actions that night created a more dangerous condition. There is no dispute that the state police are the command agency on state highways.
By disobeying a direct order, Jenkins undermines the chain of command he purports to represent. He sets a bad example for his rank-and- file. According to published reports, Jenkins and company should never have been at the scene, but as long as he was, he should have followed orders.
After all that, he enters a not guilty plea. Please save the taxpayers the legal fees -- and the fine men and woman of the township fire department the embarrassment of trial.
No, I think he may be worse. I'm glad that this spineless moron is no longer part of town goverment. Any letter I have ever read from this guy makes me shake my head in disbelief and disgust.
I completely agree with Fyrral on this one, thank God Rosen is not on the council any longer. He does have that 'special' quality similar to one other Rockaway resident that makes him crave attention by siding with whatever will make this town look bad. If they are so upset by how the town is run I do not understand why they do not just move. Life is too short... be happy... move if you must, we wont mind!
