Denville dog emaciated; police looking for owner BY ROB JENNINGS DAILY RECORD
DENVILLE -- Township police are looking for whoever is responsible for the "severe neglect and starvation" of a male boxer dog rescued Tuesday morning as it cowered under a car on Palmer Road.
"They just left this dog for dead," township Police Lt. Christopher Wagner said.
The brown, black and white dog weighed 15.6 pounds on Tuesday -- about three times less than normal, Wagner said.
"You can see its ribs sticking through," Wagner said.
Police received numerous 911 calls about the dog, now being cared for by a local veterinarian, around 7 a.m. Tuesday. When a driver stopped to help, the emaciated dog crawled under her car "and wouldn't come out,"Wagner said.
Police responding to Palmer Road, near the Randolph border, assumed at first that the dog had been struck by the car, Wagner said. The dog had no collar, Wagner said.
Police want anyone with information concerning the dog or its owners to call Denville Township Animal Control Officer Meredith Petrillo at (973) 625-8300 Ext. 265.
