Your opinions please

This is the start of todays article in the Daily Record.  It is amazing how clearly this reporter defines the beautiful area we are fighting to protect.   This article speaks about our section of NJ in TRUTH, it explains what a rare and special area this is and why it is worth protecting.

For those of you who are in support of the Christ Church application I ask that you read this and think about what we, those who oppose the application, have been saying for nearly a year.  CC is simply too large for this special and rare area.  I would ask those who support this application if you think it is in the best interest of the environment to add 1000 parking spaces and 200K sq ft of space?  Do you think it is best to cut down trees and alter the water flow?

To those who oppose this application.  Do you think the way this reporter explains this area is accurate?

Lastly, to the planner hired by Christ Church, below is a picture of the houses being build across the street from 140 Green Pond Rd.  You claimed in your testimony that the land was not near any homes, that would be news to those living accross the street and behind the land  on Old Beach Glen.

Meridan-Lyonsville Road in Rockaway Township is perfect for an afternoon drive in a convertible: It's narrow, winding, shady and virtually empty of cars. Hard to believe it's less than two miles from Route 80's wide blacktop of tractor trailer-clogged traffic jams.

The area is still mostly forested because it is on the southern edge of the state parkland, the Wildcat Ridge Wildlife Management Area.

This is about ground zero in Morris County's chunk of the Highlands.

From Wildcat Ridge's Hawkwatch platform about 1,000 feet up is a nearly unbroken vista of green and, on a clear day, a view of the New York skyline some 30 miles away.

The dense tree cover hides nearly pristine lakes, rivers and reservoirs that are the home of trout and the source of drinking water for more than half of New Jersey's population. Bobcats, eagles and other far more rare creatures are among the 30 threatened or endangered species that thrive in this section of the most densely populated state in the nation.

I was happy to see the Daily Record giving some good exposure to the environmental issues involved in the Highlands Bill.  I was somewhat disappointed that they did not cite the CC application as an example of the conflict between maintaining the quality of our environment and the desires of large developers.  I think this would have made a more pertinent story than the nonsense about Craig and Mathew.  I was wondering if the Sierra Club could be enlisted as an ally in our attempt to protect 140 Greenpond road.

RockRes,

I am not in a position to get into great detail on a message board on this topic.  I will say that we, the residents of Rockaway Twp., have MANY friends who are looking out for our environement.  If you wish to discuss it further feel free to call me my # is on the voices website or the good ole phone book.

Have a nice night.

Lisa
