I only skimmed the page briefly but from what I gather, at least the church in Colorado already existed and consisted of members of the community.
I've never seen a case like the one we're experiencing, where such a large church attempts to move its facilities to a distant community in which none of its members live (Doty isn't a member, and Russ says neither is he).
Has anyone heard of a case like this? It'd be interesting to look into...
The only church I know that moved was St. Christopher's in Parsippany when I was a kid. They needed a bigger church. They moved maybe 1/2 mile down the road. They wanted their parshioners at their church.
To think that they were worried about a 75,000 square foot church - - - you have got to wonder how they would have reacted to a 412,000 square foot one. Makes me laugh, except that the trauma of it all makes it hurts too much.
