No Power on Meriden Rd - 8th day now - Same Elsewhere?

Hi,

There is no power on Meriden Rd - - - it's the 8th day now (Nov. 6th, 2012) running on a gas generator. Any other areas in RT experiencing the same thing?

Hi Chuck,

Thanks for the information. Good to know that parts of town are up and running. I see several telephone poles snapped in half along Meriden Rd with the High Tension lines (7.2 KV Lines) laying in the street. There are at least two power transformers laying on the ground. I had heard a rumor that they ran out of telephone poles and that is part of the problem. One friend in Morris Township was told by the work crew that it would be another 10 days before they received poles to work with (comming from California and Canada).

The main telephone trunk line feeding Meriden Rd is laying across the road and everyone is driving on it, so the telephone keeps coming and going. Same with the cable. I wonder what will become of those huge trunk lines when the snow plows catch on them (rhetorical question).

Hi Rat. Sorry to hear that you are one of the few left w/o power. Real mess. We lucked out here in Telemark. Lots of outages around us, but we were out for only about 17 hrs total and had the geni going for the last 7 of that. As of last nite, I still saw major problems along GP Rd in the Marcella area. Several spots with large trees down on power lines. In at least one location the pole was snapped and transformer, wires, insulators, etc on road. Good luck, but I think it going to be a few more days before everything is back up 100%. C.

Ultimately, it took 11 days for power to become restored on Meriden Rd. And, the snow plows did destroy the phone trunk line feeding Meriden as well as the co-axial cables supplying cable. It took up until November 18th for the phone trunk lines to be restored. Wow, what a storm. Did anyone see that pine forest near the end of Farber Hill Rd that was completely flattened by the storm? Go check that out; it is quite a site to behold.

Power Grid

Shows you what a simple target our power grid is. Attention all terriorists, just knock out the power to large sections of our country and after only a couple of weeks there will be total anarchy. Fights at the gas pumps, all police resources will be guarding Costco's gas lines, and looting will become widespread. Food will become scarce, companies will shut down, commerce will grind to a halt. And now with no Twinkies, thousands will starve. Sad state of total lack of readiness for this country. C.

Hi Chuck,

You ain't kiddin'! We are not prepared for widespread outages like that. It felt like we were living in a third world country for a few weeks here.
