Have you folks heard about the Stanhope Eminent Domain situation? A family homestead is going to be taken by ED such that Hovnanian can construct Condos on their property. The reason given for the confiscation is that the towns politicians want to increase the tax base and are not satisified with the taxes being rendered by this familys household and the 60 year old business that they run there.
So, maybe we have to bite the bullet and play the same game with ireland - - - give the bastard a real kick in the $ss. Til now, I have thrown the towel in on ED after ireland purchased the Agilent place. But now, I am thinking that it is time to screw him. Given the way that he is treating the good folks of this township, I would now like to advocate taking that property from CC for the same reason that Stanhope is confiscating a private homestead and business.
What do you think? It certainly would put ireland in one bitchin' position, especially since the Supreme Court supports municipalities who confiscate properties on that basis.
it could not get much worse for us as far as bad press goes, so I say let's get the ED ball rolling - time to push our elected officials into doing the right thing for Rockaway, the crying and shouting by mr ireland and his PR team will continue no matter what.
I propose that we give him 5 Meg$ for the property and then tell him to take a hike. Thereafter, we should seek out a use for the property like "Light Office" or "Upscale Residential" (3 acre zoning) either of which would place a minimal amount of environmental and infractructure stress on the land yet yield tax revenues equal to or greater than that which was provided by the Agilent usage. Of course, anything whatsoever would exceed the cc proposed tax impact thus making this proposal so enticing. He would have to overturn an existing SC ruling to beat us on this. In other words, he would have to have his parishioners really "Dig Deep"!
And, I can assure everyone, that 5 Megs will have proven itself to have been the best investment ever made in the history of Rockaway Township.
