Yesterday I received a call from a woman in Roseland. There is a project before the board of Adjustments that is similar to the application before our planning board. A large church seeks to build on a 12 acres, the project is a relocation of 2 churches that are merging (one from Newark - the other from East Orange) - most of the land is in Roseland - but some is in Livingston. The project includes some area of wetlands.
This project has had 10 meetings infront of the board of Adjustments and is not even close to a determination.
I was shocked that Mr. Ireland was quoted in the paper stating that our efforts to evaluate his application was an attempt to "stall" - Is Roseland stalling? Or are both of our towns concerned and processing the application with care and consideration to best serve the community. It is clear to those of us who live here, we CARE about our future and we will take all the time needed to address the application in accordance with the law. If Mr. Ireland seeks to join our community he should understand that we care about the land, water, traffic and infrastucture and act in everyway to protect it.
If the process moves to the board of adjustment - it will take many meeting - if the application stay before the planning board it will take many meetings. I hope everyone understands that this process is only in its infancy. Regardless of WHERE the applicationis heard it has a long road ahead.
For those who think that which board hears the application detrimines a "winner" or a "loser", you are not correct - it is simply a process and under the land use definitions on file all applications must be heard in the proper forum. At this stage of the process we have yet to hear ANY testimony regarding the application itself.
If you seek more information as to how the process works I suggest you take sometime to educate yourself and you will find that you will have a very clear picture of how matters will proceed. This is not an emotional matter, simply a factual one.

Let's not beat around the bush - you are insinuating raceism...pathetic attempt to give our good town a black eye. This is about the size and impact of the proposed Mega-Campus. Period.
I should give you a little more information on the Roseland situation. It is a Greek Orthodox church with a 500 seat chapel, pastors office, kitchen, 10 class rooms and a meeting hall.
