Has anyone noticed how posts evolve on the nj.com board. The board stays quiet for a while. Then, a new 'spin' comes out. All of a sudden, you have 4 or 5 usernames posting the same spin. The spin gets refuted, the board quiets down for a few days...until a calculated response comes back...It really gives you the feeling that most of the pro-CC posts are being orchestrated from one central location.
I love the post below. The latest attempt at 'spin control' attempts to inform Rockaway Township residents that if we try to put a school in, our town will be forced to add a sales tax to cover the cost (CC pushing FUD - fear, uncertainty, doubt). This will cause real estate taxes to go up which will make businesses leave (more untrue FUD - witness the mall expansion). The town will respond by cutting back services and police (this FUD statement is most likely in response to residents' fear that CC will put a drain on services and police) and lastly, gangs will move in (laughable FUD) causing high crime and low property values.
Again - notice that when a new 'spin' is created, there is a storm of posts, followed by answers from many who monitor the board, followed by a quiet time while the pro-CC supports regroup (asking the PR firm boss what to do?), followed by a storm of response posts. All very calculate and orchestrated, and luckily for us, very poorly executed.
You can bet I'll be staying clear of RT if a school goes in. They'll be taxing everything that moves to pay for that baby! I wouldn't be surprised if you guys had to levy a town sales tax to cover all that dough your going to have to shell out to buy 110 acres of land and complete the hefty renovations!
Of course, as the real-estate taxes head north, property values will fall accordingly, and some business will decide to locate elsewhere, where the rates are better. That'll further erode the tax base, leaving residents to carry an even higher share of the burden. Then there'll be service cutbacks and a reduced police force won't be far behind. Then the gangs will head up your way knowing that response time is about 30 minutes. Then with the increased crime rate, property values will hit rock bottom.
But, hey, at least you'll be able to say you kept that darned church outta there!
That is a pretty humerous spin on things. My answer is that we will take the higher taxes, the lower real estate values, and gangs running our streets rather than having Ireland and his gang running this town. LOL! Time for Ireland to hire a better PR firm.
