I check the CC website from time to time. Today I see some changes. I do not know when they happened but I know it was after the last planning board meeting.
The website use to talk about the plans to move to Rockaway and all of the programs and buildings (such as dorms, Sr. housing, school, and the rest). At the last planning board meeting I recall the town attorney saying that items on the website were basicly 'fair game' for people to ask about. Well dont you know 99% of the information regarding the move is gone from the website!
I did find this under the NYTIMES article:
The proposed Christ Church campus on Green Pond Road here would house administrative offices, an elementary school, a gymnasium and fitness center, a banquet hall, a small religious museum, a gift shop, a school of performing arts, a computer learning center, a center for adult leadership development courses and a community development corporation
The new sanctuary would feature stadium seating, and the gym and fitness center, baseball and soccer fields, basketball and tennis courts would be open to the community, Dr. Ireland said.
I wonder if the NYTIMES knows we are permitted to use these fields for about 1 hour a month (maybe).
Cover your tracks quick David,, we may actually find the truth somewhere.
I myself have read that article and alway wondered what a "Community Development Corporation" exactly is. I know he runs a business, (ironically called IMPACT) but what is this one? Maybe real estate development? Anyone with any ideas what it could be? Please advise.
Our future campus will feature a 3,000-seat sanctuary, senior citizen housing, a school, a center for Leadership Studies, a Family Life Center, dormitory, offices and athletic facilities (This assumes that the location we move to is zoned to receive all of the following. If not, we will make the necessary adjustments in our program expectations.)
It is our conviction that a campus will provide a wonderful base for local and international ministry. Our intent is to extend the ministry of Christ to the world in relevant and innovative ways. Effective strategizing compels us to face tomorrow today. In a prophetic manner, we have cast vision for our congregation to accept God's call to build a rich Christian legacy for coming generations.
With great boldness and courage, our congregation forges ahead to prepare a place for ministry that will improve family life, develop effective leaders and establish spiritual formation for 21st century Christian disciples.
Looking at old articles on the CC website is interesting.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong. I thought I remember Rev. Ireland stating that he would definitely sell the old building in Montclair and not put up a new one there. Did he say that (I think pb meeting #2)?
“We’re going to keep our commitment to Montclair,” said the 41-year-old Ireland. “Our first approach is to plant a church here. We plan to continue all our pro-grams in Montclair.” Ireland said that if, at some future date, Christ Church sold the Trinity Place property, the church would only sell it to another religious institution.
Anyone wondering where the 4000 number came from (down to 3000 now), it is still up on their website in the referenced article:
Two buildings dominate the new “campus” he explained, a mammoth-sized 4,000-seat sanctuary and a 160,000 square-foot Education and Family Life Center building.
...and anyone wondering where the words 'food court' first came from, here is Rev. Irelands quote:
This building will house a food court, a gymnasium, a computer learning center, a center for the performing arts, a school for students from prekindergarten to fifth grade, a book store, a small museum about Christianity, and a 1,000-person banquet hall, Ireland said.
I seem to recall Rev. Ireland stating that he does not know if members will follow him and in fact, expects not all to do so (please correct me if he did not say that), but yet, the article he states:
Ireland doesn’t believe he’ll lose membership with the relocation. “We’ve never lost members from a move,” said Ireland, for whom this will be his seventh move as pastor of Christ Church. “For the past four years, our members have known we’re looking out west and within a 30-minute commute.”
So - next time someone says "Where did you make up that 4000 number" or "there never was a plan from a food court", refer them to Christ Churchs' own website and the article in the Montclair Times.
The man is building a club for 25,000 people. I can now defend this position from "three points on the compass." I can defend my estimate from a tops down (meaning campus capacity with 5 performances each sunday) to Net Future Value based on Past annualized growth, and, lastly, to ROI (return on investment) calculations based on general business practice.
Everyone needs to understand that this is a business and not a "church" anymore than Marla and I (Craig - - - an Ordained Minister with a PH.d in Divinity and my wife) am a "church" which I am close to being. (just gotta complete my 501(c)3 legal status. (I am only doing it to ultimately make a certain point) (read past posts on this subject). This whole affair is a business intrusion on all of us in this town. It's Disney land without having to pay taxes.
