Both boards keep posting about the low turnout for the meetings. The first meeting had many. Then it dwindled. I can understand, they do take alot out of a person. My question is does anyone know how many petitions the mayor received from RT residents opposing CC? If the number is considerable, maybe we should make this known.
Guess you missed the meeting where Dicker addressed that. He said the board had to COMPLETELY IGNORE letters & petitions sent to them.
Don't you get it? The board's decision has NOTHING to do with what and handful of church-haters want. They will rule based on the law. Nothing more, nothing less.
If Dimin can ignore the letters, he won't ignore us. But we can ignore ignorant a**whipes like youself that think you'll get you fair grounds planted on our soil. Go back to yor hole and pull your rock back over it.
But my point is, if the numbers don't really matter as far as swaying any of the laws, instead of getting knocked down by CC lovers, wouldn't the number of letters and petitions say that many RT people oppose this rather than letting them think because the number attending the meetings aren't way up there most people are against it. You know, not like Ted that says everyone's fine with it when we know they aren't!
When I show up at these meetins, I am essentially saying to the Mayor of RT that if the board does not fight this thing all the way to the supreme court, I will vote against him in the next election. That is my only power over these proceedings. I assume that the rest of the residents who show up for these meeting feel similarly. As for the law, that is yet to be determined. Untested law is no law, it is just legislation.
I agree with the numbers, but I'm so tired of certain people posting that the numbers are dwindling and RT doesn't care. I just feel that the law is so screwed up and we have to defend our homeland and people are saying we don't care. This is the law that says you can't build a gas station... doesn't make sense. Can we depend on it to do the right thing for us? We need something more and we aren't getting the people.
I agree with you 100%. Although the board's decision is made entirely on a legal basis, the fact that hundreds of residents are showing up at each meeting tells them that they have our support and we expect them to do what is right for the town in the long term. That's why they are talking to Marci Hamilton - getting their future defense lined up.
My fear is that when we reach May, June, or July, our numbers WILL dwindle. It's a great effort for people to go to those meetings, and when summer rolls around (and the room is 15 degrees warmer), we will most likely lose half the audience...I'm sure the CC supports (both of them) will start screaming about our lack of support.
September 2003- Marcella Community Center 55 people
September/ October 2003 - Town Council meeting Filled the room and lined up in the hall way approximately 150 people
November 2003 Copeland Middle school - 780 people (capacity of the old gym)
Planning Board meetings (per the police on duty)
#1 - est. 700 people
#2 - between 350-400 people
#3 - between 325-375 people
#4 - between 325-385 people
These are the facts - please note the weather, time of day and changes in the day of the week has had an impact on the attendance. Further, at the 1st planning board meeting there were an estimated 100 people from Christ Church - at the last meeting there were but a handful in the crowd.
The attempts of some to 'make up' data is simply silly, the facts are the facts.
Mostintown??? I thought you said that.... Well I think that if there are that many people willing to get off their duff and do something,,, just imagine how many don't like the idea. And besides, wel...its all been said by mostintown anyway
