Traffic - Call Me Crazy, But...

Hey Todd, I've been thinking about your statement "If a company were to move there, it would be traffic all week long, at rush hour!"
Let's forget that a company would probably work in shifts, and would pay taxes and employ our local people.
If a company were to move into the agilent site, wouldn't the vast majority of that traffic be traveling UP Green Pond, opposite from the rest of us coming down Green Pond?
The opposite would be true in the afternoon.
And before you say it, I'll acknowledge that some employees of the company might come down Green Pond to get there--but those employees would probably have to travel down Green Pond to get to wherever they worked, wouldn't they?

Karen,

I worked at Hewlett Packard / Agilent for 18 years at the Green Pond site as an Engineer/Scientist.  The maximum number of employess ever employed there (in its entire history) was about 900.  The 900 number only lasted for about 1.5 years.  The average number of employees, I would guesstimate, was about 350 over my career there. (I retired in 1996).  Furthermore, we ran three shifts for most of my career there.  We also used what is called "flex hours" meaning that any employee could come into work anywhere from 6:30 AM to 9:00 AM,  with many of us Engineer/Scientists comming in even later and sometimes working til 10:00 PM to accomplish our tasks.

The reason that I bring all this up is to amplify upon your point about the directionality effect of the traffic situation that Rockaway township has experienced based on the Hewlett Packard / Agilent experience. Your point is well taken and appropriate.  Most companies today follow the same model as did HP / Agilent meaning that the traffic IMPACT (to use one of Irelands favorite words) was much less than the number of employees would suggest given flex hours and three shifts.  This is all quite the contrary when up to 25,000 people may be attempting to get to church on Sunday mornings (no flex hours for services, I am sure) over a span of perhaps up to 5 or 6 services on Sunday Mornings.

Probably work shifts?  That's a convienent assumption

Employ Townspeople? I'm sure it'll take a few but enough to significantly impact traffic...another self serving assumption.

You say stupid things like that and then wonder why the Press speculates about racism?

Ted, sometimes I wonder how your brain processes things you read.

1. If they don't work shifts, then there's only a certain number of people who can be there at one time--so okay, let's say they don't work shifts.

2. Employing townspeople--not traffic related, just another benefit, along with paying taxes.

3. I say stupid things? And the stupid things I say make us sound racist. Wow--coming from a credible source like you, that means a lot.

I have never worked at a company that didn't have staggered hours of some kind. And I didn't know staggered hours was a racist remark. If CC was all white what excuse would they use, cause we would still be against them coming to RT! Get it Ted! It's not the color that bothers us, it's the numbers that RT cannot handle.

F*CK OFF!!! stop attacking karen for bringing up real points that serve OUR CAUSE! gee...she can't be too stupid...she was able to rebut each and every one of your "points"...

she's always very well spoken and is able to make her points w/out attacking people - as todd would say...keep emotion out of it...

again...i ask that you stop attacking people...you have a terrible napolean complex...do you stuff a sock down your pants too??? lay off man...stick to the issues...and if you disagree...do it like a gentleman...
