Limestone Quarry in their Neighborhood?!

I don't know if anyone else saw "NOW" on PBS last night, but there was a very interesting feature on the township of St. Thomas, PA, and the residents' battle against a quarry company that wants to build there (1,000 feet from their elementary school), resulting in a 94-acre pit and limestone and silica dust...


Most interesting to me were the discussions with a couple of attorneys on both sides of the argument, discussing residents' rights to keep their neighborhood the way they like it vs. a corporation's rights to buy a piece of land and make a living.


Apparently there are no environmental issues in this case, but it was interesting just the same.


Scott posted on PBS's message board about some of the similarities - it was late, so feel free to add anything you feel is relevant. Maybe PBS might find interest in our story.

Megachurches are the equivalent of DisneyLand for the 'faithful'. They are nothing but cash machines where the sheep get that warm and fuzzy feeling. They are the travelling carnival religious revivals made permanant. Their sole goal is to fleece the flock.

I find the replies to be a little coarse, BUT I think that's because we're so immersed in this and are so concerned with being careful not to offend, that we can't even post an honest opinion anymore.


Due to the way the media will twist what we say into some sort of statement on behalf of the town, we can't even state our own opinions anymore. What a shame.

I know that area pretty well notocc. I've been out of touch with Morris county and knew nothing of this. What a disaster and what a bizarre concept, period. I mean - why not just go to a mall?? And we wonder why cultures with their feet still (for better or worse) firmly planted on terra firma look at us in amazment (to be polite).

Of course we all know that Clinton said he didn't inhale. Recent news about George W. Bush being tape recorded talking about his pot smoking days had him trying to think fast what to say about it, and his answer to all this was " I didn't exhale either".

We were engineering students, thus were smart enough to know that when you took a drag, you needed to inhale.  Clinton always make me laugh with that line.  What a character.  At least Bush never came up with a line like that one!  But, then again, Bush is not as creative as Clinton is.  And of course, if one didn't exhale, that would be only have been a one toke night!

Dont know if Little Feet ever did that song, but the popular version was released in 1969 and was done by Fraternity of Man. Its called "Dont Bogart Me" and was part of the Easy Rider Soundtrack where it became well known. It was written by Elliott Ingber & Larry Wagner. FOM  also released it themselves on their album, Fraternity of Man.

well Rat... some of us are proud to say we go to "low churches" that are filled with ex druggie pastors & ex druggie congregants ...  even many of the people that go now are in the process of becoming ex druggies... we love em & welcome them!!!! 


 


 


and yes... Little feet did a remake of that (waiting for columbus I believe)

Are the people who go to these so called "low churches" more generous than those that go to "high churches"?  We certainly would not want ex-druggies going to "high" churches, now would we.  But, if those that go to these so called low churches are more generous when the plate gets passed, well then, that is the kind of church that I want to start!  For a small fee, I am sure that I can provide my parishioners some great solice.

Well....I didn't go either, I was 12 and a half at the time. however, I did attend the 30 year reunion in 1999. The one with the original acts at the original site......not the other one. For lack of a better word....it was groovy! :)

Yup rat, Country Joe did that one. I met Country Joe a few years ago.....intresting guy to talk to. Strange thing is that he can no longer perform that song in public, unless the lawsuit has been settled. It seems that through what we know as "the folk process" , Joe "borrowed" the the tune from some song called "muscrat ramble" or some such thing done by some old blues guy from the 1930's.....whose name escapes me for the moment. I have not been there in a while, but you can read up on it at Joe's website at www.Countryjoe.com. He also has a page on his site where people from all over put new lyrics to the song.


 


ok.....i peeked at joe's website....he won the lawsuit.

Good to hear that.  In some very sick sort of way, I always enjoyed that number!  Similarly, I liked a lotta Zappa for similar sick sort of reasons (besides the fact that he had a very tight band).


 


There was another song that I just rememberd with thetitle being something like


"Up Against the Wall Mother F---ker."


It was a very sensitive, tear jerking lament!  LOL 


It was done by somebody called "- - - and the lower east side".  Do you remember that lovely tune and who did it?


 


Anyway, I still think that Frankie goes to Englewood needs to pick up on these numbers.  We all need to hear them again in a live venue.
