This is what they had online. Doesn't sound like they are well informed.
(02/08/05) ROCKAWAY – Officials of a local church are facing resistance in their efforts to build a new structure for worship in Rockaway Township.
Residents and officials in Rockaway may take Christ Church to court in an effort to get church officials to change their plans. Currently, the organization plans on building a large church on Green Pond Road to help accommodate its 5,000 members. However, some residents feel the new structure is too large and may cause harm to the environment.
A spokesperson for Christ Church says the town’s resistance is nothing more than discrimination against the church. Reverend David Ireland says the proposed site for the structure used to be the location of Agilent Technologies. According to Ireland, no environmental concerns were ever raised when Agilent was operating on the property
My comments were edited down to basicly 'there are 2 streams on the land and the land is environmentally sensitive' and 'RT has 22,000 people and CC has 5,000 - that is about 1/4 of our poplulation'
Ireland did not appear on camera he issued a statement. What is really strange is how uninformed he is! He needs to do a little more homework on the history of that land.
Take care!
Lisa

It just played again, just before 8pm. Not too bad, except they introduced Lisa as a member of an environmental group. Hey Lisa, I thought VORT was just anti-religious racists. You care about the environment too?
"According to Ireland, no environmental concerns were ever raised when Agilent was operating on the property"
-------------------------------------
The fact is that HP / Agilent have been in some serious trouble with the DEP because of problems at that site. I will not go into details, because the discussion would become protracted. It is kind of tough to swallow that Ireland does not know about these things; after all, both HP / Agilent and cc all share the same PR firm, Spring O'Brian. One would think that they might also share important information regarding the full and complete disclosure legal aspects of a 15 million dollar real estate deal.
where is resposibility in journalism???? Dose any news outlet ever do more than 2 minutes homework before they air a piece? I guess truth will always be overshadowed by the 15 second soundbyte. And where was the above reproach rev for a live shot? Was he afraid of being edited to pieces like Lisa? Oh the tangled web cc weaves...
p.s. - if the "lower level" parking garage is dug out, will ground level now start from the basement floor as far as building height is concerned??? Either it's underground, or it is the ground level, not both.
LOL - then I guess he could build another garage under the proposed garage, but call it under the garage parking garage and that would not be an underground garage! Very kewl.
Regarding being edited let me tell you all how this interview went and what was said s what was cut.
This is was a very short interview they were in my office for less then 15 minutes, camera rolling for maybe 5 minutes. With the camera on I told them... we oppose the project because it is too large for this environmentally sensitive area. The land is environmentally sensitive and includes 2 prestine streams, a town well, endangered/threatened species, and is on a small county route. Rockaway Twp is a town of approximately 23,000 people and they have 5,000 members, that is nearly 1/4 of the total poplulation of the town and frankly our volunteer fire and first aid service will not be able to handle such an influx of people, not to mention our road ways can not handle that amount of traffic. I was asked what I thought of the new ordinance, I said it brought RT into line with new state laws designed to protect the environment. I then showed the reporter the application for CC submitted to the DEP and noted all the errors and ommisions. She indicated they may be interested in doing a story just on that issue. She asked me a few set up questions like how long have I lived here and what I do for a living. She also asked about Voices of Rockaway Twp. and what our focus was.
Doing these types of interviews one must speak in sound bites. In short any part of what I said on camera would have been good to explain our position, it would have been better if used in whole, but that never happens. Anytime a reporter asks for our point of view we will make ourselves available. I found the statements issues by CC an interesting choice of words. Again they threaten us with litigation even when they their own experts tell us that traffic is going to degrade to extremely poor conditions at the Rt 80 intersection. They have yet to tell the DEP of the 101,000 sq ft of space in the underground parking garage.
Have a nice day,
Lisa
