3443. PR Firms
by JustFactsCC, 12/20/04 15:17 ET

For those inclined to learn about what PR firms do for their clients, there is an excellent article by Robert A. Kelly entitled "What Is Public Relations?". The article is located at http://aboutpublicrelations.net/uckelly9a.htm

An interesting quote from the article:

"Public relations problems are usually defined by what people THINK about a set of facts, versus the truth of the matter"

Viewing that quote along with Mr. Sceusi's statement in the November 12, 2004 issue of the Daily Record - "All I know is he's [Weinstein] a PR agent and he's putting a spin on it. I don't think he speaks to the legal issues involved" and mr ireland's comments in the November 5, 2003 Montclair times - “We have a responsibility to be very factual” gives the reader a good sense of some of the forces in play both on this forum and in the planning board process as a whole.

Is there an attempt by the PR firm involved to change the publics' opinion - not based on facts, but based on what someone wants us to think??? I will leave that to the psychologists who read this to decipher - after all, with their PhD's, they are clearly smarter than I am.

I do find it interesting however, that an organization with a stated "responsibility to be very factual" can hire a PR firm, which by the definition given in Mr. Kelly's excellent article, attempts to "change the way we THINK about a set of facts, versus the truth of the matter"

I find the dichotomy of these two issues - "remaining factual" and "altering the way we think about a set of facts, versus the truth of the matter" to be quite disturbing.

I'd like to hear what others think - and by others, I mean people on both sides of the issue - but please, no PR 'hype'...Let's try to keep this an intelligent discussion.

Thank you - stay warm - see you tonight at the meeting!

I think that 99 percent of the folks in RT know what CC is up to with its PR firm and its attempt to distort facts.  It is basically a very easy observation for anyone to make.  Personally, I find it morally repugnant for a so called "Church" to be massaging the so called facts in this case.  The facts are what the facts are, nothing more and nothing less.  No PR firm can change them.

Here is an example of some "Facts."

Is the Agilent Site in an environmentally sensitive area?  In Fact, Yes, it has been determined to be so by the state.  No debating it.

Has the State of NJ designed a body of law to protect environmentally sensitive areas in the Highlands section of NJ?  In fact, yes.  No debating it.

Is the Agilent Site in the Highlands protected Zone?  In fact, yes, and there is no debating it.

Did Ireland and CC do their best to present the State and Township with plans that conform to these new laws or did they Dodge the laws by obtaining an exemption from the law?  Fact is that they avoided the law by obtaining an exemption.

Does Ireland care about our environment?  Fact is that he does not, else he would not have sought out an exemption.

You seeee folks, "Facts" are very simple and straightforward concepts.  Spin is the antithesis of that concept.
