Well in short the "press conference" was a joke. 8 members of the press were granted access to the property while 18 residents waited outside the gates.
The big news is that they have a new mailing to send the residents of RT and they claim that they will have no adverse affects of the environment - or traffic.
The Daily Record, Neighbor News, Citizen, Star Ledger and WMBC channel 20 were there. They all spoke to us after the press conference and you will read all about it in the papers and it will air Friday night between 5-6 on channel 20.
Interestingly Ireland make a comment that "we" have not tried to speak to him - yet when he was leaving the property he refused to stop and speak to the residents. "We" asked him to stop and he refused claiming he had a 12:30 meeting to get to - interesting planning on his part.
Big thanks to Dennis Schvejda of the Sierra Club for taking the 2 hour drive to be with us!
Any questions give me a call!
Lisa

The Christ Church Plan for the redevelopment of 140 Green Pond Rd is just too big for the area.

I wonder if they'd be willing to back it up with a guarantee - if traffic increases, they'll take immediate action by shutting down and moving out??? <nah>
Interesting - I went to the cc website (Make sure you click 'enter' from their welcome page) to see if they've put their updated message to Rockaway online yet (hint to cc - many of us Rockaway residents do NOT have Rockaway mailing addresses - don't forget those in Hibernia, Newfoundland [Green Pond], and Boonton - don't forget to send your junkmail to US too - many of us enjoy recycling ).
If you want to see the EGO of the man in charge - go to their website (click 'enter') and look at the title of the webpage...geez - talk about ego....
Nope - nothing new on the cc website - but lots of interesting old stuff:
June 30, 2003: The development of the 58-acre facility on the 107-acre site is expected to be completed in May 2004
Hey David / Craig / Greg / Meyers / whatever - I guess you are correct - VORT is doing nothing good - it must be YOUR personal efforts that have kept the above statement from coming true.
Also from their June 30, 2003 memo: Since Christ Church was planted in 1986 by senior pastor Dr. David Ireland, his wife, Marlinda, and six other members, the church has enjoyed steady growth. Currently, Christ Church has a congregation of 5,000 members.
Question for a planning board meeting - if cc, by their own statement had 5,000 members in June 2003 AND was enjoying steady growth, how many members do they have now...Seems like a simple question to answer...Come on planning board - ask it!!!
Gadfly - I have heard on the grapevine that his present membership is 6,000 plus. That agrees with my growth projection formulae which would put it at 6,300. As for the planning board asking those sorts of questions, forget about it.
Wasn't it Craig who had the growth projection worked out. geez "Daniel" your stealing your landlords material. I'm appauled that Iralnd wouldn't spend 5 minutes to talk to his would be new neighbors. Way to blend into the community you want to serve. What a fake this guy is. When I recieve the propaganda in the mail I will write, "Refused - Return to Sender" on it and stuff it back in the mailbox. I suggest everyone else do the same.
Thats not a bad idea BR. At least it will give a sense of personal satisfaction (small as it may be) to make them pay for the return postage.
It certainly is interesting that they think calling a press conference without inviting the opposition OR the township officials makes them look good. I hope they arent paying Whineystein too much because so far every stunt he has pulled on their behalf is just making them look more and more desperate and ridiculous.
