Iran threatens the Anialation of Israel - Appropriate Reaction?

When Iran threated to wipe Israel off the face of the map recently, it shows that they do not understand Jewish (especially Talmudic) law. That was an extremely dangerous move for Iran to have made and will seal their own fate.

The reason is not only intuitively obvious, but steeped in law. Israel is now put in a position wherein in must (by Talmudic law as well as secular law) take a pre-emptive position in dealing with that situation. More specifically, I predict that within the next year, Israel will use overwhelming military force on Iran. Israel will likely do some major damage to their nuclear and defense infrastructure likely killing many people in the process (although they will try to minimize the death toll).

Is anyone going to ask - - - "how come Israel did not abide the love thy neighbor principle?" Will any of you hold Israel at fault for the forthcomming pre-emption? I should hope not, but I know one nut case on this forum who probably will.

Israel has a right to protect itself and it's citizens.

Pre-emptively? They have not been attacked, just threatened with annialation. Are you sure that they should not wait for the annialation to occur first? Maybe they could "love" them so much that they will not nuke Tel Aviv. Or, maybe they should just love the heck out of them as they drop bombs on their infrastructure.

Please note that this seems to be at odds with your principle of tolerance. After all, the religious leaders in Iran have the perfect right to want to destroy Israel. In the Quaran, it requires the killing of all of the infidels - the Christians and the Jews unless they convert to Islam. So, wiping Israel off the map is simply a legitimate form of their religious expression.

You are so intolerant of other perfectly legitimate religious perspectives, Mr. Bill. (for those who can not tell, I am being totally facetious with that last statement)

Something I told my young son several years ago when he complained an older child was picking on him in 5th grade.

"I do not want you to be someone elses punching bag, so you have the right to defend yourself should someone coming looking to attack you. I do not want you to throw the first punch, but I do want you to defend yourself if someone else does"

I feel the same way and make mention of this as a premise to what I posted above.

You can now attempt to twist it any way you like, for as a conservative Jew, I am not a real Jew in your narrow minded eyes.

Quoting:

" - - - for as a conservative Jew, I am not a real Jew in your narrow minded eyes."

Funny. I can not seem to find anyplace where I have ever said that here or on any other venue. Besides being dumb as a stump, you seem to be paranoid and delusional as well. Better go back and check my writings and let me know where I said that you were not a real Jew.

Oy Veh!

And, using your sons analogy, I guess that Israel must take the first nuclear hit before attempting to retaliate for the threatened annialition by Iran. You need to teach your child that he should just take the punches. The reason is that the person punching him may hate Jews and that punching him is a legitimate means of religious expression, especially if the "puncher" is a Muslim. You need to teach your kid "tolerance" and "love thy neighbor" no matter what damage that may inflict on him.

Try to be consistent with your idealistic proclaimatioins, bud.

ps - When I was a child, my dad taught me to kick the $hit out of anyone who even threatend me, and I did. And as a "Jew Boy" I received my fair share of threats. It is just that I was the "Jew Boy" who was real dangerous to mess around with, and so the bully kids just learned to back off. They got real tired of going home covered in blood.
